ohh man....have to love the internet :)

About 5 years ago I subconsciously leaned against the bed of a beat up Front Ranger and the owner had an absolute meltdown and wanted to start a fight so since then I've been super conscious of not touching other peoples cars. Lesson learned.

Personally I couldn't care less about my own vehicles....if some leaned on my Tesla who cares. It is a piece of metal. Two years ago I let a random guy I met in a parking lot of a grocery store take my Model S for spin. I simply just don't care. If you car gets scratched is that really the worse thing that could have happened to you on that particular day?

But yea, the original poster of the thread is 100% out to lunch. How complicated is it...not your car, don't touch it. Period.

And no we are not a family....it is a freaking mass produced car!! You aren't special because you are a Tesla owner.

And people made/make sacrifices to buy a Tesla? Give me a break. People around the globe don't have clean drinking water and we are making "sacrifices" to drive a premium car. Let me guess, you can only go on one vacation this year instead of two. People in North America are seriously out to lunch. I could have fed a village in Africa for the 100k I paid for my Model S.
Dang! I'm depressed were not family and I'm not special cause I'm about to own 2 Tesla's! :D

Hi everyone,
I have bought 2 MS from the Rocklin team, first one in Nov '17 and second one Dec '17. I can attest to the professionality of the Rocklin team. The night I was taking my first look at MS in late Oct, the OA Daniel stayed back past 6pm (their closing time) and made sure he answered all my questions before we left and he locked the place for the night. The night we were signing the papers for the second MS, they again stayed back past 6pm, as we were running late due to kids' prior obligations. Any time I have gone there to charge my car(s) they have been the friendliest car sales team i have ever met. They know me by name now.
As for the car pending delivery on that day, one can't blame any Tesla employee for making sure that nothing happens (accidents happen) to the car until it is driven off the lot. The car is Tesla's responsibility till the new owner takes it. The M3s are even more "valuable" (both in terms on money spent anyone and also sentimental value) to any buyer becaue of all the hype and limited supply.
I was there at the Rocklin location yesterday too and noticed a midnight silver M3 ready for delivery at 5pm. The sales team was kind enough to let me see it but reminded me not to touch it. I wasn't offended, after all, it was going to be someone else's car. It wasn't my car and I didn't mind being reminded not to touch it. The day will come when they will have M3s on the showroom floor and anyone can feel free to touch it, get in, etc etc and test drive too. But for now, we all have to respect the fact that any car that is not delivered is someone else's dream car.
Last weekend while supercharging at the Folsom outlet, a M3 pulls up in the far right 2B stall. I complimented the owners on their new car and as an advise told them about stall A vs B supercharging. They said they had bought it 3 days ago and appreciated the information. They couldn't stop admiring my black MS P100D that was charging and I enjoyed showing them my 2 month old car inside and out. We even took it up Folsom blvd and we put it ludicrous mode (mind you, my first time doing this in my car) and they were thrilled. After getting back to their car, I asked them if they needed any help. They took me up on my offer and I hopped in their 3 day old M3 and walked them through all the settings. They had to leave soon after that, but as they were leaving, I couldn't help but say "welcome to the Tesla family". They left with big smiles on their faces.
Yes we are a family, if you want to call it that.

3. I was barely leaning. The ropes were not taut. There was ZERO risk to the car. The Tesla guy (thankfully not you) was just paranoid.

Hope to see you around the area, enjoy your beautiful car... it almost made me switch my order from blue to red! :)

Zero risk??? Unintended accidents happen all the time - people trip, slip, fall, drop things, etc. it happens. None of it intentional, but accidents happen. IF something had happened, it would have put everyone in an awkward situation: the one who had the accident may have genuinely apologized and even offered to pay for repairs but the owner then would have to live with the damage or a ‘repaired’ car (and associated delay for repairing it). Also Tesla’s kinda caught in the middle having given permission to someone to go ‘check out’ a purchased car which had not yet been delivered. Awkward all around.

I definitely understand how you feel though! I really wanted to get a look at a 3 in person before we got ours and would look through the lot whenever we were near the Sales Center (although that was not often, since it’s 50 miles away).

I also understand Tesla’s side too - from their standpoint ‘better safe than sorry’. Listening to my delivery specialist, he said they’ve had many people doing ‘crazy things’ to get a look and pictures of a 3 and their policy now is to keep them covered until delivery and the whole enclosed delivery area is roped off so no one but the owner and DS is allowed in that entire area. So while you may not have been one of those folks doing ‘crazy things’ for a pic, who knows what they’ve encountered and maybe they were just being cautious for the sake of the owner, though maybe they should have been more straightforward and told you it was ‘their policy’ if the owner didn’t actually tell them to mention it to you.

Now regarding the color... go for the Blue! It’s amazing! But then again, I may be a little biased! :D

You are actually in a better position than I was - I had not even seen a 3 in person before we picked up ours last week. I will tell you this: You’ll LOVE IT when yours arrives! :)

Am I the only one seeing this as a missed opportunity?
What it OP instead of walking away hurt turned the question The owner is here?? May I greet him?
The new owner would 99% allow the OP to check the car with him present and when off the lot. He may even got a test drive.
When I picked up a new car I wanted to show it to everyone :)

I had stopped at the Rocklin location to see if they had any info on non-owner deliveries or drive events and they indicated some people had taken the liberty to get into cars awaiting delivery etc. Makes sense they want to protect new owners cars. I would want them to do that with mine.

Chatting with my OA (Rocklin, CA) a few days ago, he mentioned that they have seen people climb the fence and even use drones to see the M3s behind the fence. Really! I know people are curious to see them, but this is getting scary and dangerous. Imagine if someone fell while trying to climb the fence (and then they would sue Tesla on top of it) or if one of those drones lost power and fell on an undelivered car. Give it a few months and there will be enough M3s on the roads that looking back one will laugh at all the desperate measures people took to see them.

Seems ridiculous to go to those lengths. The gates for the back area are typically wide open during business hours. They probably don't want a bunch of people walking around back there, but climbing fences and using drones seems like overkill.

probably me....

1. no idea what you are talking about. anything they said to you was not me, and i am not even aware of anyone looking at my car. i only saw a few people in the showroom

2. sensitive much?

3. my guess is if you are leaning to 1/4 inch of the car... then the chance of you losing your balance is not nil. then you catch your balance by putting your hand on the car, or worse, your phone scratches the car... ETA: or even worse, you cause the ropes and the poles to fall on the car. i would think as an employee, that would be disastrous and they are sensitive to that. you can see from the photo that the ropes are not that close to the car. (it was completely roped off when i got there and they opened the rope for me.)

i would've welcomed any onlookers. otoh, if i were you, i would not have let your experience bother me one bit. a guy tells me to back off, i back off. no big deal. get on with my life. the rocklin delivery team was top notch and tried their best to make my experience memorable, and succeeded. if that means an employee telling an onlooker to not get too close to my car, because they don't want to ruin my experience, I have no problem with that. if they felt the best way to do that was to use the owner of the car as the reason, i have no problem with that either.

peace

It's hard to believe they are still putting that bow on the cars at Rocklin. When we picked up our car there a few weeks ago, the wind blew the bow off and put a nice big scratch in the hood, which had to be repaired. The bow has a magnet to hold it in place, but LOL the hood is made of aluminum... doh!

BTW, you have great taste, we have the exact same configuration! What's your VIN?

Furthermore this seems to be a direct conflict with my Model S purchase experience, where I WAS INVITED TO SIT IN A CUSTOMER'S CAR pending delivery in the same exact situation. (I didn't damage that one either).
I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you here. Here is another pic that gives a better idea of the ropes

Again, if you are 1/4 inch from the window, I say you are leaning pretty far, and way too close for comfort for anyone responsible for making sure you don't ruin the car.

I'll tell you this: they treated the bow like it's the only one they have.

Not sure how anyone has the idea that it's OK to touch other people's (brand new!) cars without their explicit permission. Maybe some people don't care and think it's just a car, but others do care. Try to put yourself in someone else's shoes. Maybe they've scrimped and saved for years to afford it. Maybe they're just particular. It's not up to you to decide what they have a right to do with their own property. The Tesla employee was looking out for a customer. That is exactly what they should be doing. Kudos to them.

Nice color combo. Exactly like (soon to be) mine.
Which part of Elk Grove? 99 or Hwy 5?

Woah what a post. OP you could have accidentally dropped your phone on the car and scratched or damaged it somehow. The car looks great btw and I'm sure the employees wanted it to stay that way. I wouldn't have a problem if the Store objected to me leaning over the ropes to get a closer look even if the first person said it was okay to take a photo. Nor if they said the owner would mind getting too close. I'm sure any owner wouldn't want to see their new car damaged so don't see any problem with them saying that regardless of the owner expressing it themselves or not. And as someone pointed out it is still Tesla's car until the keys are handed over. Totally different matter if you are invited by the owner. Chill mode!

What is it with people blaming Tesla for everything it seems. So many people seem to feel entitled. and telling the owner how to feel no less.

Aye. I'm having a bad week. Yesterday my keys slipped out of my pocket, and fell down a sewer. Couldn't believe it. Felt them drop, "kachink!" I said "Oh no!" City said they couldn't help me. Had to get a locksmith to open my house, buy a new set of locks for my door as that was actually my spare set of keys.

Today, I gashed my thumb.

....

From what I understand those giant car bows are expensive. I asked about one at a car dealership at one point years ago and don't remember the cost but was way shocked over it, definitely was over $100. Also remember being told you can rent it. Seriously, rent.

Well I found this online and these are not that bad, maybe prices have come down. King Size Bows
