In an attempt to help first-time buyers and seasoned prospectors alike find these rare gems and to give us a dedicated place to share our opinions on them, post your eBay, Craigslist, AutoTrader or random other Roadster findings here! We should focus primarily on cars that are not currently or actively being offered for sale by owners in the "Tesla for Sale" section of the Marketplace but you should feel free to cite any older threads for reference. Let's all do our part to ensure each of these special cars get placed in loving homes. I'll start... 2010 Roadster Sport 2.0 VIN: #830 (US) Mileage: 14,000 Price: $32,000 USD / ¥3,699,000 YEN For sale in Kanagawa Japan and being discussed here. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport VIN: #774 (US) Mileage: 2,246 Price: $74,888 USD On consignment @ Starwood Motors. That one at the top is the one I posted about here (Request for advice on buying a used Roadster). On the second page of that thread there is a list of 4 more cars from a lot referenced by TEG but those are not the only Roadsters for sale here in Japan. If there is interest, I'm happy to post links to others. There are S models for sale (used) as well but I guess that information belongs in a different forum. Kokoro P.S. If things work out right, that one at the top will be off the market this week and, hopefully shortly thereafter, in my driveway.
Thx @kokoro and fingers crossed you can land #830! Yes, I'm sure there are many here that would love your assistance; though it would be prudent to work with a knowledgable vehicle broker who knows import/export tariff rules, regs, etc. The last thing anyone wants is for the cars to be container shipped back to American shores only to be held up in customs due to missing or incomplete papers. Looks like you indeed uncovered part of Japan's 2.0 Roadster Sport trove @TEG had some intel on as part of the discussion on your thread here. Below are each of the cars you found with what I hope is the correct translation of their mileage and asking prices (feel free to correct any of them if incorrect): 2010 Roadster Sport VIN: #806 (US) Mileage: 5,460 Price: $49,300 USD / ¥5,650,000 YEN Being offered for sale in Katsushika, Japan. Has full int/ext CF pkg and Exec interior, “Signature” sill plates. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2010 Roadster Sport VIN: #865 (US) Mileage: 18,640 Price: $37,500 USD / ¥4,296,000 YEN Offered for sale from Saitama, Japan. 2.5 front + rear fascia. Magma Orange? If so, crazy rare (at least stateside)! ----------------------------------------------------------- 2010 Roadster Sport VIN: #881 (US) Mileage: 6,200 Price: $68,100 USD / ¥7,800,000 YEN Sale originating from Osaka, Japan. Another with crazy low miles, CF everything, Exec interior. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2010 Roadster Sport VIN: #886 (US) Mileage: 24,850 Price: $49,600 USD / ¥5,680,000 YEN Being sold from Nagoya, Japan. Yet ANOTHER fully loaded 2.0, CF everything, Exec interior.
The Japanese Roadster market seems surprisingly soft. If those cars were offered in the US at those prices they would sell very fast.
It does and they would indeed. Found a couple more (@TEG, would you mind checking into the VINs for us to see if they were for Japanese export, thx). Group buy, anyone? 2011 Roadster Base VIN: #346 (EU / APAC) Mileage: 62,140 Price: $56,650 USD / ¥6,488,000 YEN Located in Chiba, Japan. Attn: UK and AU shoppers... RHD! ----------------------------------------------------------- 2011 Roadster Sport VIN: #338 (EU / APAC) Mileage: 43,500 Price: $48,732 USD / ¥5,580,000 YEN Located in Tochigi, Japan. CF everything, Exec interior and, once again... RHD!
#865 was particularly enticing to me...however, upon research of service history, I was turned off. Regardless, for these prices, it wouldn't be the worst idea to go through the hassle to get them back to the US. After all, they started here. @TEG, could this be the Thunder Gray you finally grab?
Since they started in the US, a simple state inspection should be all that's required. I wonder if there'd be any sort of import taxes required to bring them back in.
Seems like these would certainly fit the "substantially similar" clause. Also from Jalopnik... Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Shipping A Car To The U.S.
That Thunder Gray and Green are from the European VIN pool (assembled in UK not in USA). SFZRE8B19A3000346 SFZRE5B3XA3000338 SFZRE5 = RHD for Japan? SFZRE8 = RHD for Hong Kong (diverted to Japan?)
Thx @TEG for the continued VIN deconstruction research. If you could kindly modify my incorrectly posted VIN notes from my previous posts to note "UK" instead of "JP?" as I noted, that would be appreciated.
2008 Roadster Base VIN: #232 (US) Mileage: 54,700 Price: $55,000 USD Newly reslisted L.A. 1.5 on AutoTrader. “The car was owned by a single owner and is in great shape.”
2010 Roadster Sport VIN: #1049 (US) Mileage: 8,139 Price: $88,000 USD No idea if this one's still available as it's been up on Panjo for 57 weeks. Originally posted for sale @ $99K on TMC in Dec ’15.
For a car with under 2,000 miles, it appeared to have spent a lot of time in the service center & had plenty of repairs. I am unsure if I'm authorized to share specific service information. Might be worth digging deeper for a seriously interested party. The bottom line that I was told, is that the SC would be reluctant to service the car since it's from out of the country. This was the deciding factor for me to turn away. Anyone else have any insight into this claim?
Another issue with #865....... If the dealer does not read English and the display isn't available in Japanese, then the battery could be compromised.
2008 Tesla Roadster VIN: #191 (US) Mileage: 18,279 Price: $59,900 USD Up for sale at iDrive1. Previously discussed back in 2009 here with an eBay shill bid of $150k.
These have been available for some time on Shift.com and/or eBay but posting them here for good measure: Tesla Roadster 1.5 VIN: #451 (US) Mileage: 36,953 Price: $51,700 USD 2-owner NoCal Thunder Gray 1.5. Also up for on eBay here but by "0" rated seller "highergear" who's listed numerous other Shift cars? ----------------------------------------------------------- Tesla Roadster 2.0 VIN: #575 (US) Mileage: 16,143 Price: $64,950 USD 1-owner NoCal Glacier Blue. Was up with a BIN on eBay here again by "highergear" but is allegedly "no longer available"? ----------------------------------------------------------- Tesla Roadster 1.5 VIN: #391 (US) Mileage: 42,000 Price: $58,850 USD 2-owner NoCal Glacier Blue with 2.5 front fascia + 2.0/2.5 Base rims. On eBay here once again by "highergear".
No idea if these are still for sale but here are a couple in Belgium... @TEG need your help with the VINs, thx. 2011 Tesla Roadster Base(?)
