Hey guys i have another newbie question.
The dealer in canada and the shipment company finally got all the custom forms sorted out. the roadster is ready to ship in 2 weeks (yea finally)

I know it depends how healthy the battery is. In the ballpark how many days the battery can sit without charging. Im thinking to ask the seller to put the roadster to storage mode.

therebare folks here that are far smarter than me on that question, but I’ve left mine unplugged for three weeks with minimal standby loss. If yours had the OVMS system, you will have more phantom draw, however.

Just grabbed some info from my OVMS daily charging messages. It reports about 2 miles lost everyday. If you can find out how many miles yours drops daily, you'll have a better idea, but if, conservatively, it loses 5 miles per day, and has a range of 150 miles, that gives you 30 days (probably 45-50 days realistically). Now, I would not recommend that as, my experience, that is not good for the battery, imo.

Do you have a committed shipping timeframe? Canada to CA should not be more than a couple weeks, I would guess, but I have no experience in this...

Probably do the normal full standard charge prior to shipment (85%?) and it should be fine.

no need; the car will definitely go to sleep during the transport since the weather and ambient temperature is cold during this time of year.

you will have no issues with battery; after 20 days of phantom drain you should be around 138-140 miles remaining.

I'd like you to try a little experiment in order to learn something new about your Roadster. After it goes to sleep try bouncing it up and down a few times. Do it as hard as you can without scratching the paint or damaging the body. Then listen to see if it woke up.

Interesting; I see where you are going; however the transport drive is probably very smooth, the car is most likely asleep the entire time.

No risk putting in storage mode; I think my car was delivered this way as well. It's just a push of a button on the dash screen so it's very simple to change back to standard mode.

Storage mode is just a charging mode, likely pointless for transport...and always risky when stored!

I would bet that storage mode is probably responsible for half of the bricked roadster batteries since it always maintains the battery at a very low charge all the time....if anything bad happens like a breaker trips while you're away, it's much faster to go from 30% to 0%!
My car is 'stored' for winter in my home garage so I can check up on it all the time but I still top it off once or twice every winter especially if I'm going away on vacation and never leave it very long below 30%.
Never used storage mode since I realized this!

One can also physically disconnect the battery from the PEM and that will eliminate the phantom drain.

He meant once fully charged 80-90% before goes on the transport put it in storage mode; the battery will still be completely charged. Yes this is fine.

you could but do not trick the new owner into doing something like this lol. it's Not needed for his transport.

It's not going to hurt, I suppose, but I do not believe that storage mode changes the vampire drain aspect of things. Does anyone know differently?

Rather, I believe it just limits the charging to something under 50% SoC, with the intent to lower the stress on the battery. Where the car can get itself into trouble is if there is then an interruption in the charging power, as there's significantly less headroom left before bricking.

Storage mode is useless for shipping - it only affects the behaviour during charging.

If you are truly concerned, you can easily inhibit APS (from the diagnostics screen) to put the car to sleep and minimise vampire drain. At the other end they just open the charge port a few times to wake everything up.

Best way to shutdown a roadster for shipping
