Took Delivery Of My Car 5 Days Ago, Waiting On Paperwork? (louisiana)

So the car didn't even come with temporary tags, or any paperwork at all actually, so it's just been sitting in my garage. Has anyone else here that lives in one of the weird states that they have to do this for know of how long it will actually take so I can get my car registered and start driving?! They said it would take a week but I feel like that's not going to happen...

Wow. Did you not execute paperwork online beforehand, like an MVPA? We are in Texas so things are a bit strange here but we did everything in advance, including having the finance company send Tesla a check. At pickup all we did was sign a paper saying that we were taking the car. The car did have a temporary tag on it, though.

My registration IS the temporary tag on the car and says so on the tag, which is different from most new car sales in Indiana, so I don't have any registration papers in the glove box. I do have to wait for them to mail me the rest of the paperwork before I can go to the BMV and get permanent tags though. They told me 7-10 days for that. But you're saying you didn't get ANY papers? That's really odd. I'd be nervous and upset too since you can't drive your new car! I'd call them and bug them about it. Find out if it's been processed and put in the mail yet.

I'm finishing up my loan paperwork right now, so I haven't actually taken delivery in Louisiana but:

Delivery Adviser warned ahead of time that I would not be receiving temp tags as LA is a self registering state due to Tesla not having a sales license here.

You should be receiving all paperwork to title and register the car within 7-10 days of delivery. (Unless your financing bank has asked that the paperwork go to them)

I wanted to self register and pay the taxes myself but my bank has insisted that all paperwork go to them and they will take care of titling and registering.

Since I knew I wouldn't have a temp tag, I asked if they could supply me with one. To my surprise they said yes, so that takes that off my plate. So I would suggest, if you financed, see if your bank can issue temp tags to you.

What bank are you using?

It’s worth a shot to call Alliant and see if they can issue you one. I don’t known anything about them or their capabilities.

One of my fall back plans was gonna be calling some dealerships and see if anyone would sell me a temp tag.

My final solution if nothing else worked was gonna be putting a sign in the plate holder that said tags awaiting paperwork or tags applied for. Something to that fact. And just hope no one pulled me over and ticketed me. Was gonna keep mvpa and loan paperwork in the car to prove ownership.

You have a lot more willpower keeping the car locked up this long than I would have.

Hope you find a solution or the paperwork comes soon.

In Texas they didn't give me a temp plate and I got pulled over. But just a warning. Afterwards they sent me a temp plate. Go figure

Just called alliant, and they couldn't help, guess I'll just wait on Tesla to get their stuff together . I just don't see why they couldn't have all this ready to go before I took delivery and then after I confirmed delivery, they send it ASAP. They need to get their **** together in Louisiana!!!

i dont know how you even buy it in Louisiana because the nearest service center is in Houston? That's a hassle for repairs.

I had a sort of similar issue, being in Michigan. I declined to pickup in Cleveland, OH and had them deliver it to me. It arrived with no temp tags. As a rule, they will not send out registration paperwork until after the return period so that people don't register and then return. Luckily I have the phone number of an extremely helpful sales person (about the only useful person I've talked to at Tesla) who told me I should have had temp tags and immediately called the Ohio store and had them email me temp tags and overnight them as well. Registration packet arrived very much on time about a week later.

I'm curious about the whole paperwork thing too. When I picked up my car 8 days ago, I was told I would be receiving copies of all the paperwork I signed by email. Nothing so far. Right now, the only 'proof' I have that I own this car is the temporary registration. I have confirmed that my trade in is paid off at least. I sent an email to my delivery specialist today asking about it but I assume they are absolutely swamped until June 30.

Tesla holds on to the paperwork for 7-10 days following delivery. This is so you will be outside of the 7 day return window before you can title and register the car. If you return within 7 days and the car has not been title then they can resell it as new. Once titled it is considered a used vehicle.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. And means there was probably no reason for me to pester my delivery person yet as my 7 day grace period just ran out yesterday.

Also just an aside for anyone who happens in to this post because it says Louisiana. If you live in an area that allows you to join Jefferson Financial Credit Union, they have car loan rates as low as 1.99%. I was able to get my loan at 2.99% interest with around 700 credit score. That was the best I found in the places available to me. So if you aren't finding anything better than that, give it a look.

I am in exactly the same situation as you. I went with GNO Federal Credit Union for financing and they also took my payment for Tax, Title, License. I took delivery a few hours ago today and I'll be contacting them tomorrow morning to see if they can supply me with some temp tags.
