I took delivery of an X 100D this AM at the Fremont Delivery Hub and wanted to report back to the group on my experience. Overall, I'd say that I am a very happy customer. The car is fantastic to drive and, thanks to this forum, I think that I went into this with the right set of expectations about car quality so was not let down when there were a few issues today. Some thoughts below:
Prior to delivery
The car had about 170 miles of range when I hopped in, but I took it to the supercharger for the hell of it and snapped these pics. Enjoy!
Prior to delivery
- My delivery date was bumped about 48 hours prior to delivery due to "unforeseen circumstances." Tesla rescheduled me (without asking) to this morning at 830am. Fortunately, this didn't conflict with my Thanksgiving plans, and I was able to make it.
- While this delivery rescheduling was going on, Tesla also changed delivery specialists on me. I had a total of three delivery specialists throughout the process. I found this less than ideal and, as a result, leaned a bit on my sales advisor, who has been fantastic since day one.
- My appointment was at 830, and I arrived around 815. As I was walking up, I noticed that the car was parked right in front of the building, and I was able to identify it by the VIN number. I was expecting to be rushed through delivery, so took the 15 minutes between arrival and my appointment time to start inspecting the car on the outside.
- At 830, I went inside and was surprised when there was basically nobody there. Maybe three or four other groups of people taking delivery, but that was it. I checked in and waited about two minutes until the delivery advisor greeted me and asked me if I wanted to go take a look at the car. I told him I already looked at the outside a bit, but he said we should go check it out together and look on the inside as well.
- After a couple minutes, he told me to take my time looking at the car and to come back inside when I was done and we'd then do the paperwork.
- Paperwork took about 20 minutes
- While he was doing paperwork, I went back to the car and setup my bluetooth, driver profile, etc.
- The whole process was really smooth, and I was grateful that he gave me so much time to look at the car, note deficiencies, etc. I did not feel rushed in any way.
- Unfortunately, the car seems to have been scratched lightly in multiple places on the front bumper near both headlights. I don't think it will require body work. This is one area where Tesla's mass-delivery system creates friction...at a dealership, I think they'd be able to have a technician address the issue before delivery and/or pull it in back and try to buff it out after the deficiency is identified. Instead, I get to make an appointment at a service center to get it fixed.
- FWD and frunk fitment are great. Tailgate is slightly off if you are really picky about it (the whole thing seems to be pushed out a bit further than the headlights/car body). The driver's side mirror is also slightly off. All of these were noted and will be addressed. In the grand scheme of things, minor issues that my current BMW also has.
- I also had some surface scratching on the plastic molding under the frunk and under the tailgate. Will get these replaced.
