Took delivery today. Questions on the software update and wind noise

So I took delivery today and damn, this is one heck of a car! The delivery experience was smooth though Highland Park Tesla in Chicago didn't give me any swag! Staff was very helpful and very cordial. I drove about 62 miles today and love love love the car. Been planning for it for over two years!!! I have Model S 90D, with Enhanced Autopilot and all glass roof and premium upgrade package. I have questions on the autopilot and the summon and other features that I don't see now.

1. When I took delivery, I saw a software update that was pending. I came home and tried to install it, but after two minutes into the process, the update stopped and I got a notification saying update failed, we will notify you as soon as there is another update! Is it normal? Has anybody else seen this?

2. I don't have the summon feature on the app or via key fob enabled. Car shows version 8.0. The product specialist told me I will receive an update soon that will enable summon and other features and the autopilot 1.0 for now. Isn't the summon feature already part of 8.0?

3. All glass roof is awesome but I think I ran into the bad luck of the wind noise. Between the speeds of 60-75MPH, I hear this slight wind noise by the driver side. The sounds is exactly the one you hear when a side window is slightly open and gives that sound. It is annoying! And for a #100K+ car, it shouldn't be happening. I read in the depth of this forum that Tesla is aware and its a design issue. Bummer for me. Anyone else hear this wind noise?

4. The premium leather seats are nice but I feel a slight discomfort in the lower back. Is it because the seats need to "set" in? Anyone else experience this with the new premium leather seats?

It may have failed because you were in the car, watching it. Seriously. This has happened to other people.

When you start an update, there is a two-minute timer before it actually starts. Use the two minutes to get yourself and any key fobs away from the car. Wait until the app notifies you that the update is complete before going near the car again.

For this failed update, there is a good chance you will just receive notification again, within a day or two. If you don't, try calling your service center and ask them to resend the update.

There are several aspects of AP1 that have not made it into AP2 cars yet. I wouldn't worry too much about it, as before long your AP2 cars will be surpassing what our AP1 cars can do.

Many people--not just those with the new glass roof--have wind noise issues. The noise can come from a number of places, including the triangle window, the door seals, etc. You may want to see what your service center can do to reduce them. They almost certainly won't be able to eliminate them.

Good luck!

The wind noise is normal. My car has it also at highway speeds. You hear it more because there is no engine and the door/window seals are not that great compared to most luxury cars. You'll get used to it in a couple months unless you're switching back and forth with your other cars.

I fixed your post, below:

"The wind noise is standard in many Model Ss. My car has it also at highway speeds. You hear it more because ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶ ̶e̶n̶g̶i̶n̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ the door/window seals are not that great compared to most luxury cars. You'll never get used to it.

Did you check your boot and “frunk” for the sway? I’ve heard the delivery people sometimes hide it there to surprise you.

I’m bummed to hear about the wind noise. I’m expecting my Model S75D in early April.

Have service check out your triangle window by the A-pillar. That has been a notorious cause of wind noise and is an easy adjustment. If the noise is audible near the headliner, that's normal. I hear it in all of my other vehicles when I try, but it's largely masked by engine noise.

Good to know. I had my SC adjust the rear windows for wind noise and they made it worse ...

I just brought my 2015 CPO'd 85D in and one of the things I am having them check is for wind noise. My wife is complaining about it and it seems to bother her more than me. It's a very common complaint due to a lot of factors and hearing sensitivity.

In my P85+ with sunroof I didn't notice wind noise on the freeway but in my new P100D with the glass roof it's significant...annoying.

I've got to agree... my S 90D with glassroof has more wind noise than I expected. Pretty much everything else about the car is superb. Even the rough ride with coils/19" tires has mellowed in the last 3000 miles.

Any plans to do anything about it, either with your local SC or as a DIY project? Wind noise and rattles drive me crazy in any new car I buy. I can see myself obsessing about this kind of thing until got it fixed.

Thanks for your replies folks. I found a thread where someone had the same issue with the glass roof and used this easy fix. It worked for that person. Perhaps we should try this

Wind noise in full glass roof new Model S

I got the software update this afternoon and now I have TACC and EAP (first iteration) enabled. But I STILL don't see summon on my Tesla app. Any ideas how to activate (or get it activated?) the summon feature?

Interesting. Do the coils mellow? I just got my car with coils and was surprised at the rough ride. Regretting not getting the SAS. Would be nice if it got smoother overtime

Summon is not a feature yet available on AP2 cars.

I just accepted delivery at Highland Park yesterday. I brought up your missing SWAG bag issue. They were surprised. They normally leave the swag bag on the table next to the car. They will be happy to replace your Swag bag if you just stop in. Please call their sales staff.

i had a firmware update waiting to be installed too. I installed it once I got home. I am now on 17.5.28. I was surprised to see my Tesla app was working in 45 mins after pickup.

Good luck
