Touchscreen flickers on/off while passenger front window rolls up and down.

Hello all,

I've had an interesting issue pop up today and was wondering if anyone might be experiencing the same problem or anyone can give me any insight into what is going on.

So after running some errands this afternoon I returned home and parked my M3 in the garage. I was only in the house for probably less than 5 minutes before I returned to the car to grab my water bottle and phone. I opened the front passenger side door and reached in. All of a sudden the touchscreen starts flickering on and off while the window starts rolling up and down on its own.

I immediately scheduled a service appointment, but the earliest I can get in is Sept 2nd. Luckily I was able to catch this on video and I'll try to upload that. UPDATE: I had to trim my 60 second video down to 2 seconds, sorry! But just imagine the window bouncing up and down 2-3inches and the touch screen just flickering on and off in a endless loop. Again, just curious as to what this might be. Up until this point I have had zero issues with this car and have been very happy with it. Bought it used in October 2023. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I've seen my window move like that when my door isn't quite closed properly, half-latched. I don't remember where the sensor that tells the car if the door is open or closed is (can't go to my car right now). If you find it, play with it to see if that's the culprit.
I bet GtiMart is right. The car thinks that the door is open, so it drops the window and turns on the touchscreen. Then a quarter second later it thinks the door is closed, so it raises the window and kills the screen.

Well, I had my service appointment today and I must say, I'm really impressed with the Indianapolis Service Center. I've had to take my car in a few times for various reasons and they have always treated me very well. This visit was no exception. The guys that checked me in this morning were very friendly and personable. They seemed knowledgeable and after describing the issue and showing them a video, they were able to immediately give me a couple of possibilities of what could be causing my problem. One possibility was that it was bad wiring and/or a bad wire harness. The other possibility was it could be an issue with my puddle light. So I settled down in the waiting area and 5 minutes later I seen them driving my car into the shop. After about an hour and a half later I received the text that repairs were complete and my car was ready for pick up. The verdict: Unfortunately they were not able to recreate the problem. They inspected wiring and found no issues. However, while inspecting the vehicle logs they did find conflicting error messages from the passenger side door and it's latch state. They also noticed the puddle light was flickering so it was replaced. Will this fix the issue? Only time will tell. I honestly don't know why the puddle light would cause the behavior I was seeing from the center screen and window. I didn't stick around to ask any questions as the service center was pretty busy. The total cost for today's service call was $0. I'm assuming it was covered under the used car warranty, but they listed it on the invoice as a "Good-will service"
