Trailer Hitch on Model X

Putting the receiver cover on was the hardest part, I had it cut to be super tight around the hitch receiver. I will send pics as soon as I can

Are these measurements accurate to fit around the hitch?
Assume once this is done, its a nice cosy fit, the cover goes back on and the hitch is still exposed?

These are the exact measurements that I used, I had to measure multiple times, but these are the exact measurement. The fit is very snug. I actually over cut one side, so it is a bit wide, but overall, very snug.

You recommend adding a tiny bit extra space on each side? or where is it the most snug?

I just took pictures, hopefully they post correctly. It is actually most snug on the out lip closest to the bumper, we had to use a trim tool to force it to go into the retaining area. I wouldn’t cut any different than outlined in the instructions.

Well I completed it today-
Bosal hitch off eBay $169 delivered. Also sourced a used Yakima rack (same as Tesla one) and the ski rack too.
Total cost - $169, hitch $75 and rack $120

I did not attach the cable for the brake lights, as I only wanted to carry bikes.

Was able to get the trailer towing software pushed to the car.

Great job on install! Awesome that they just pushed the feature. Already have Bosal hitch but that almost seems worth it to me just for the better placement of the safety chain hooks :|.

Were you able to add a connector? Curious if everything is already there for a 7-way on models that didn't have tow from factory.

That’s a really nice job! But where do you plug in the electrical cable from the trailer? Or do you only use the hitch for a bike rack?

Hi @branana,

Here is the part in my 2018 Model X that connected to the magenta arrow connector above.
One end plugs in to the connector shown above and the other end is the 7 pin trailer connector.



It is part number 1046032-00-C

Please double check before you order...
