A father-daughter pair is making what may be the first transcontinental drive in a Model S using only Tesla supercharger (solar) power. They left before the full E-W string of superchargers was completed, but the remaining ones are coming online as they travel. They made it through the bad weather in the East and are about to enter Utah.

Cool trip, but not all superchargers are solar.

Edit: I know they weren't all planned to be, I was responding to the OP's statement that they were.

Elon Musk has been videotaped stating that "when you use our superchargers, you can drive forever for free on pure solar energy." He qualified the statement by noting that the supercharger network will generate more solar energy for the power grid than they distribute to cars during charging. We'll see if he can substantiate this in the long run, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
