    Hello there,

I was wondering if the community has shared a similar experience or had any advice to give on the process of transferring their plates from their old car to their new (used) Tesla. I purchased a used Model X and picked the car up in Georgia at the end of November. We are now into the 2nd week of January and I have 3 days left on my temp plates before they expire.

I only have one person that I have been emailing back and forth from Tesla who was the person that emailed me shortly after I made my payment online (is this considered the "delivery specialist" or "used advisor"?) In any case that one person is the only person who I have an email from at Tesla. At the time of ordering the car this person would respond to my emails within moments and in the middle of the night. My guess is they make commission? In any case I figure they have made their money off of me now and I am no longer a priority because any response I get IF I get a response takes 3 to 4 days to respond. Lately it is every day asking for either another contact responsible for plate transfers and I am getting absolute silence.

The plate I am moving is a Connecticut vanity plate. I went to the service center in Milford CT and found out that since Teslas cant be sold in CT and only serviced they have no clue who to even point me to.

I had considered getting my car serviced so I can drive a loaner car and return it once Tesla finishes "servicing" my tune up as well as "servicing" my plate transfer. I feel like I might get a fee though or they repo the loner ;)

Any thoughts? Advice? Thank you all!

This is ridiculous. There's nothing Tesla specific here!

Just go to the DMV (Norwalk, most likely) with your title (or title application) to apply for a title and registration to the new car, and tell them you want to transfer plates from Car A to Car B. Fill out the forms, pay the fees, and you're done. Bring proof of insurance.

What are you doing with your old car? If you're keeping it, you'll also need to apply for regular plates to replace the vanity plates.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt in that there is still another 3 days on the temp tags, but what really itches me the wrong way is that I already paid Tesla in the closing costs all fees associated with this process AND that I cant get my advisor to respond to my emails.

If it comes down to it on the last day I will take a day off of work and go sit at the DMV for the day but if that's the case I wish someone from Tesla would just tell me now so I can plan accordingly..

The old car was sold.. An old Honda CRZ. I miss it dearly but this is a good upgrade :)

Since the old car was sold, it's trivial (at the DMV) to transfer the tags.

Pro Tip for Norwalk: Get there 45-60 minutes before opening, and you'll be close to first in line. Early morning, for sure, but A LOT less waiting and wasted time.

I appreciate the advice! I live in Norwalk. I moved here in July and went to the DMV to get my CT license maybe 5min after they opened and spent 3 hours there.

We have Satellite DMVs here in Hawaii. And the lines are different here in Hawaii. The city has added cameras so that we can see online how long or short the lines are. So, you can browse the different DMVs and pick on to go if you can get their quick. So, why not come here and get your new Tesla's plate?

Believe it or not, Connecticut also used to have dozens of satellite offices for titles, registrations, license renewals, etc... but then the beancounters got involved and closed 95% of them down. Now there's just a handful of full-service offices in the state, so unless you live near one, it's a hike to get there, and then they're all way over-crowded and slow. Also, the CT DMV used to allow all AAA offices to process registration and license renewals with efficiency and very little wait... they killed that program also. They should call it Disconnecticut.

See, just like I suggested. Should come here to register for CT.
Another brilliant idea from me, eh?
I know, I know, I could not resist being stupid today - its a slow day.
