Trickle-charging?

I have looked around to see if this question has already been asked and answered, but with no luck.

We haven't yet received our used Model S but I've been using the long wait to do research :) I am aware of so-called phantom or vampire drain, which seems to be around 1-2 percent of battery capacity per day between charges, depending on the ambient temperature. I'm going to install a dashcam with a parking mode so I will be adding to the drain a little.

My question is this: during routine charging at home using a 32A (UK 230V @50Hz) supply, or just over 7kW, once the target charge level has been reached does the car switch charging off entirely or does it then draw a lower maintenance or trickle charge current to cover the normal background drain?

Also, does relatively low power charging, like 7kW, proceed at a steady rate or will it also slow down towards 100%?

Thanks everyone!

When it charges to the set point, it doesn’t resume charging again until the SOC drops by 3%. You wouldn’t want the charging system to be running continually. If the car having 1 or 2% less charge in the morning than you set if at is a problem for you, then your’re setting your SOC too low.

Thanks @TexasEV - basically just trying to learn more about the system; 1-2% drop is fine :)

Normal daily mileage is likely to be 30-50 miles and so actual charging time is only likely to be a little over 2 hours. I'm also trying to work out if a discounted off-peak (night time) electrical supply is worthwhile.

So far, because the peak tariff is relatively quite high, it's not looking that great for my expected usage with the limited night time charging.
