UC Berkeley AV Social Perception Planning

Just came across this article on Techxplore.com where researchers are suggesting AV’s should use surrounding vehicles as extended sensors - much as humans do - in uncertain environments such as when the actions of adjacent vehicles suddenly brake or alter course to avoid objects outside the reach of your vehicle’s sensors. Long sentence, sorry. But as an example, the car adjacent to you suddenly brakes hard for some unknown reason discernible to you due to an animal, pedestrian or child who has become visible to the adjacent vehicle. I expect most of us have experienced similar instances where we reacted with the other vehicle or did not and then barely missed impacting with that object.

Anyway intriguing article. Wonder if Tesla’s team is considering topics like this?
