Morning all, I hope you are all well

I'm looking to dip the toe into the world of owning an EV. I've test driven the M3P, E Tron and Ipace. All very different cars and all very good cars. I struggled with the no dashboard on the M3P but christ it was quick!!

The one car I haven't been able to drive is probably the car that I am most likely to buy, the Model S.

I'd be looking to buy second hand, ideally a 90D (the M3P that I drove was so fast it made my kid feel sick!!) and a few years old. Not the old shape though.

Any pointers that you can give on what to look out for, what years are the best buys etc etc would be gratefully appreciated. If there are any members in the Huntingdon/Peterborough area that have a spare morning to chat over coffee then give me a shout!

thanks

Hello Newbie! I test drove the M3P and it made my head spin (I have a little vertigo) so went for the M3LR and I am very happy with it. A buddy has the Model S and he feels it is a little too wide for UK roads but I am sure you are aware of the width.

I had an S for the day while my Model 3 was in getting some delivery issues fixed... I honestly didn't like the S, it seemed so cluttered compared to the minimalistic interior of the model 3 - also there's a huge empty space in between the two front seats!!!!

Size-wise I didn't really notice much difference (obviously it's bigger but it still fitted in Ikea's parking spaces :p) It was locked to chill mode which probably didn't help, but driving it around I found my model 3 much better. One thing I will say though is its suspension was notably smoother and the road noise is a lot less on motorways than my model 3.

I would suggest a chat with Richard R Symons Ltd he’s probably sold more pre-owned Tesla’s than anyone else and absolutely knows his stuff. There have been so many changes over the years it can be a nightmare to know what to look for and what to avoid. If you explain what’s important to you and your budget etc he’ll give you good advice.

I have no direct connection with him, other than he just sold my Model S 75D for me.

C'mon.. the S is a whole 4.5" or a hands width wider than the 3. It really only matters if you have a garage door to worry about. Of course the X is another 4" wider again...useful if you have a spreading backside....
I think it took me a whole 2 weeks to get used to the S width and that was after driving a GT86 for a few years.

What you do have to consider is family space needs, relative depreciation new v second hand, current level of tech you may or may not want to use and importantly outstanding warranty.
