UMC Failure

I have the original gen1 charger from my 2014 model S (40 amp version). The car has 89k miles on it and has also been charging our model 3 for about 20k miles. Yesterday after charging our model 3 to 100 (two days in a row for road trips), the charger stopped working. I got the 2 red flashes on the front of the charger, which, according to the manual is a faulty ground. I plugged our gen 2 UMC in and the car charged just fine. It leads me to believe the UMC gave out on me. Before I throw it away and buy a new one, does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong with it?

Update: thanks to another forum member’s suggestion, I tried cleaning the contacts on the charger and it worked. Just used a bit of rubbing alcohol on all the metal bits (see pics) and hit the reset button on the back. Good as new!

Also, these gen 1 chargers have a history of failing. If it does and you take it in to the SC they should replace it for free, although it may be for a gen 2.

Hmm, I did not know that... but, I like the Gen one so much better, I’d be sad to lose that extra charge rate

UMC (and HPWC if purchased at the same time the car is ordered (at least back years ago)) is covered for 4 years under the new car warranty. An HPWC and/or UMC purchased afterward only has a 1 year warranty.
