Like I said. Emotion will play a roll depending on any given situation. My guess is though it will never become a problem as most of us EVers who own these adapters will avoid using them unless the situation is dire. I doubt there is a lot out there. Kinda glad it’s in the kit though. :). It’ll also come in Handy if we get an HPWC in the garage (if we end up buying a model 3).
yup well said! i already bought and use a tesla hpwc to charge my volt, so therefor i paid tesla money, so i am entitled to charge at the destination chargers. Also that $1000 for my model 3 reservation :)

Not if some folks have their way:
In the end, me and a bunch of other ev drivers will still be using those tesla hpwc's. so best just come to terms with it.

I find the "two wrongs make a right" rationalization unfortunate.

With the entitled attitude displayed, I'm not surprised Tesla has engineered the Gen 2 wall chargers to be configurable to lock out generic J1772 usage for some applications such as destination charging locations.

And just a heads up, the latest adapters including ours has circuitry that deals with the handshake. You just have to wait 30 seconds. I’m hoping that by the time we get our HPWC that won’t have changed.

Do you take the free fluid top-offs the dealer offers for your new car and siphon them in to your old truck too?

Ah, so in the other thread you maintained that it was likely something Tesla wouldn't mind.

Now that there's indication they don't intend for other makes to use the HPWC's apparently some feel it's ok as long as there's a way to game the system?

If it's your personal HPWC there's no need to worry about that after all... As you can configure the unit to not lock out non-J1772 use.

Well that’s kinda cool. Thanks for the info. And for the rest, meh, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Anyway I’ll drop out of this one. Cheers.

So that signage would seem to indicate it's intended for Tesla charging. You simply don't care?

When the owner of the establishment goes "Yeah, go ahead and use them!" after telling them I have a non-Tesla, yes, at that point I don't care about any Tesla sign.

And about the "gen 2" HPWC, the adapter can get around any "lockouts". It'll just take a little longer to initialize charging.

It is my contention that a good chunk of these establishments that agree to have destination charging stations installed don't even know that they can be only be used with Teslas (sans adapter). The few places I've talked to have responded along the lines of "Oh really?? I thought they worked with any electric car!". To be an owner of a business that thought they were providing an extra amenity to all guests, only to realize later it is only usable by a small slice of that targeted clientele owning 1 specific car brand. Well, unless you have the adapter like me and others in this thread. ;)

I agree that site owner ignorance is indeed likely part of the problem.

Out of curiosity, to the WCs come with the Tesla only DIP switch set? I assume that is the case, I didn't open mine up to change any settings before sending to the electrician for install.

Yes there are dip switches. I forget what they come set for. But the electrician should refer to the manual and set appropriately for the right breaker size/current limit.

All Leafs are EV's. Not all EVs are Leafs

Yea, that works with inserting any EV name, so what's your point? Tesla makes a proprietary charger socket, but they turn around and make adapters so you can use everything not tesla? Pot meet Kettle.
