Under door armrest lights

Question. When do the under the armrest door lights come on? Mine only come on when the doors are opened and go off shortly after closing. I think this is part of the "ambient" lighting.

I can't seem to get these particular lights to stay on under any other circumstances. On the controls menu, there's a button you can toggle from grey to blue that says "ambient" but this button does nothing that I can see.

Mine comes on at night and provides ambient lighting. Would love to have color change ability

There's a button in the Control page next to Dome, I think it's called Ambient. When it's on their are always on (at various levels of dimming), and when it's off they only turn on when the dome light would (doors open, etc.). This is from memory, so could contain errors.

The owner's manual has this to say:

If you turn on AMBIENT lights, the lights on the door armrests turn on whenever the headlights are on.
