Maybe a window sticker "Trespassers will be shot on spot" would help?
Electrocuted, surely? It is an EV after all.

I hate to see that happen to anyone. I do wish the police had at least tried to track down the criminal. It is not that the phone is worth their time, but I would think catching a criminal is a good use of their time...

I just moved from Chicago. It wasn't a theft, but my wife was hit in a car accident. They wouldn't send an officer to the scene unless the damage rendered the car unable to move or someone required an ambulance (not just injured, seriously injured). Further, you are not permitted to file a police report at all unless the damage was estimated at $1500 or more. So, you're in an accident, no one comes to help, then you have to go get a repair estimate before the police will even talk to you. She had to get out of the car at 4am by herself, talk to the guy who hit her, and try to determine on her own if the car was safe to drive.I wonder what the minimum theft the police actually will follow up on these days. If someone breaks into a house and steals $800 worth of stuff, will they just ignore that too?
I believe there is a "special place" for those who break the commandments in a place of worship.
Your restraint in this matter is extremely commendable. Especially with the technology to track so readily available and those paid to "serve and protect" so willing to do neither. It's great that a positive side was acknowledged and accolades were given where they were due, to those that helped make this no more painful than it already was.
Just curious, what does the TMS do to alert anyone that a window was broken? Lights? Horn? Tesla Service? App Alert?
I left my car unlocked outside of my office, and someone took my daughter's iPhone. I called the police and they gave me the cold shoulder just like they gave you and could not care less that I knew where the person was because of Find my iPhone. After unsuccessfully trying to convince them to care, I tracked the guy down with some friends and tow and -- luckily -- was able to retrieve it without much ado in exchange for a promise not to report the thief. The police department finally called me back 8 hours later to take a report and I didn't even bother picking up the call.
It seems that setting up speed traps and trying to pad their budgets have clearly taken priority over crime these days here in Vegas. Pathetic...
So sorry Hussain.
Everyone's responded on the iPhone stuff. So I'll respond to the insurance part. Someone tried to break into my old car twice (Maserati QP). Both times they shattered the glass but were not able to break through, due to the triple pane glass. Anyways, I called my insurance company and both times they covered it without using my deductible and it didn't show up on any Carfax since it wasn't an accident. So it could be worth calling your insurance company and asking them.
maybe, but you may also have their images on video, license plates, oh yeah, and location via the GPS tracker
I just installed the dual camera Blackvue 550--nice unit. However if the smash-and-grab thief is paying attention, they will rip the front unit out of its mount. All of the video data is on the micro SD card in the unit. It is not streamed to your iPhone/Android 'real time'. You have to download the data using WiFi to your iPhone/Android or eject the Sd card and download to your computer.
I've considered putting a laptop in the hatch footwell (or somewhere else) that is offloading video from the camera over the camera's wifi. I didn't get to the point of figuring out how to run a power cord to the laptop, but I have considered it.ahh, its Achilles heal....I wonder if there's a unit on the market that can stream real-time. All the more reason to have Tesla incorporate this into the next design
The damage to the paint sucks, and is also indicative of a very amateur thief - he just saw a nice car, assumed there was something of value, and did whatever he could to bust in the window. I hate the feeling you get when you're walking back to your car and something bad has happened to it, I'm sorry it happened to you.
The lack of police interest for this kind of thing is a really telling sign of how things are going, it's not just Vegas, it's all over the place. I was hit in the rear by a hit & run driver in my previous car, and it was rendered un-drivable (fuel pump safety cut in, airbags etc), and in a very exposed and dangerous position. I called it in to the police, it took 40 minutes for them to arrive (after 2 other police cars drove past without stopping), they threw out a couple of flares, called the rescue truck, and left. The flares went out 5 minutes later as it was raining. Pathetic.
