My Vision only MY currently on 2021.4.21 had this show up yesterday on the Tesla app “Software update required/contact service”. Anyone experienced this? I thought software updates were all over the air?

Huh no idea what that means. I've gotten 4 or 5 updates since I've had the car (including 3 this month) and haven't had any issues with any of them.

2.6% of HW 3 vehicles have been on this 2021.3 branch release which started rolling out in mid July. They were only putting US Model Y and 3 vehices into this cohort until early Sept when they started adding china-built models. obviously this is not all the vision vehi\cles, but it is the only meaningful size experimental cohort in teslafI. Sure hope Tesla lets us out of this cohort in time for the v10 FSD upgrade. (btw, I’ve been on 2021.3.104 since getting my vehicle directly from Fremont on 7/19).

Well, it will only show up with that particular update, so if you don't get it you're SOL...

2021.32.22 contains the Beta FSD request button. It has been installed on ~23% of vehicles since distribution started today. Another 6% or so are pending. My Vision only Model Y which had been on 2021.3.104 since I picked it up on July 19, finally upgraded to 2021.32.22(!) Here's the big picture from TeslaFi.com:
