Maybe in this case...but I know that their price to install a new OEM tire is more than twice what I can get elsewhere (without even really searching around)...so I wouldn't put it past them...

I'd like to think they're really out to break even, but I haven't seen evidence of that yet.

Unfortunately, in CA, sales tax really makes selling and buying again expensive. At 8.5% (or more in some areas) it adds a lot to the transaction.

Plus you gave to give back the $2500 credit if you sell in less than 3 years.

I was nearly pointing out that the high sales tax makes car trade ins an impractical way to upgrade.

BTW, I did NOT let the politicians do that to me. Unfortunately, my vote was not enough to keep sales tax low.

Moving is not an option as my job, home and family are here.

Yes, but some modifications would be required. Daytime running lights have to be turned on at all times (firmware setting). Key fob system may have to be upgraded to meet the more rigorous immobilizer standards used here. Seat belt release buttons have to be red coloured. The various labels and stickers have to be bilingual English/French (not absolutely sure if they force importers to do that, but is definitely required for new cars). Best to check with Tesla to see whether they're willing to help with that.

Old thread, but how is it you were quoted for a performance drive unit upgrade when we all now know the S85 and P85 have the same DU.

Some of the earlier DUs were the same hardware but Tesla changed this with the more recent versions. Try to flash the P firmware on a newer standard drive unit - it won't work.

I recently asked my Service Center if my S85 can have the new P85 drive unit retrofitted. They said no.

I eventually looked into just trading my car in for a P85, came close a few times but then in the end decided I'm happy as is. :-D

The 85 rear motor is the same for p and non p cars.

Motor, yes. Inverter, no. If you are dealing with a complete drive unit assembly (motor + inverter), they WILL be different, and have different part numbers.
