After 270,000 km my 2016 Model X 90D’s MCU finally bit the dust and won’t power on. It has glitched a few times, software updates temporarily revived it. Not so lucky this time.

Many of the functions stopped working including, falcon wing doors, climate control, turn signals, etc.

Took my car to the awesome Mississauga service team near Pearson Airport.

They advised an MCU 1 would have to be ordered, but I was eligible to upgrade to MCU 2, which they had in stock.

Since I was having my FSD hardware upgraded to 3.0 at this time, I went ahead with the MCU 2.0.

Pricing for the MCU replacement:

MCU 1 - $2500 plus hst CAD $
MCU 1 (re-use your glass touchscreen display 10% off of $2500)

MCU 2 upgrade is $3500 plus HST
MCU 2 upgrade (re-use touchscreen display is also 10% off - $3150 plus HST)

My display is still in perfect condition, so I went with the $3150 option.

Looking forward to actually being able to web browse on the new MCU. Netflix and YouTube is an awesome bonus!

Congrats on the upgrade!

Coming from a curious AP 2.0 Owner, How would you describe the car after the upgrades?

I'm currently waiting for parts to come in at Mississauga for MCU & FSD Upgrade. I hope it solves the sluggish LTE issues I'm currently having with my model X.
