Yes, P90D is mechanically EXACTLY the same as a P90DL. Same battery, same battery fuse, etc. The only difference is the software upgrade. Which to me, sorry, is just Ludicrous to spend $10,000 on something they can program into the car in a matter of minutes. I understand you're paying for all of the R&D work they invested to make the Ludicrous option what it is, but still, kind of ridiculous. Especially considering they'll allow owners with older cars that actually need hardware installed, to upgrade their cars for only $5,000. You get penalized for buying a new car. Add that to the fact that, as the chart above shows, there's such a minimal performance gain over a P85D in real world, back to back tests and it just doesn't make sense. Of course if you're filthy rich and can afford it, then so be it. But, for guys like me that can afford the car, but still have to be relatively smart with my money, I can't justify the price difference. Finally, I drove both cars (P90DL & P85D) and my butt could barely tell the difference. Both cars plant you back in the seat and cause neck strain. I'm already annoyed that Tesla PROMISED P85D owners that software updates would be released to improve acceleration over time. Instead, they said, no, you now have to pay $5,000 more to get what we promised you to begin with. Tesla promised a 10.9 1/4 mile car as well. Based on real world results, nobody is close to that as of yet. So not paying another $10,000 for another broken promise. I love my car, but am also a realist and I'm no longer going to pay for "maybe's" from Tesla. Seeing is believing. That $10,000 will stay in my pocket until I SEE Tesla has delivered as promised!!!
