I think this is the first time we have cracked 10% for "green cars."

Model 3 rocking its segment. Honda Clarity outselling Bolt. For some unknown reason both being placed in subcompact class. i3,despite being a bad value and not very good car, is 3rd in the "entry luxury class." Model S plugging along in 3rd place in "Luxury and High End Sports Cars" class, same as last 6 quarters or so.

Model X plugging along 4th in midsize luxury SUV class creating more distance from Acura MDX, which not really comparable to Model X. Neither is Lexus RX.

SpaceX and Tesla Inc are managed by one CEO and thus effectively one company?

BTW Renault and Nissan have separate CEOs but same Chairman. Carlos is no longer CEO of Nissan.

There is more between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Renault and Nissan own significant number of stock of the other company and Nissan hold a controlling number of Mitsubishi stock.

Yes, Nissan bought a controlling 34% in Mitsubishi. They have not merged though. And Mitsubishi is not a wholly owned subsidiary of Nissan.

Yes, Renault and Nissan have crossowning shares but still separate companies. They have talked about merger but have not done so.

Yes, chart is a bit old. Opel is now part of PSA.

The French group owns 43 percent of its Japanese affiliate. Nissan in turn holds a 15 percent stake in Renault. But those shares do not have voting rights, under a French law that prohibits a “controlled” company from having voting shares in the parent firm.

renault controls nissan, under french law Nissan is legally a defacto subsidiary of renault, even though it has a different share register, and different CEO. at the end of the day, Carlos Ghosn controls both.

Lets see what Prime Minister Abe says if Renault tries to dictate to Nissan what it will do against Nissan's wishes.

My guess would be a forced divestiture.

That's interesting. It's actually more companies than I would have expected. Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi are sort of tied at the hip, though.


Several of these companies are in a truly awful position for the electric transition. I would guess at least half of them won't survive.

The other poster I was discussing this with said under French law Nissan is functionally a subsidiary.

I countered, if push comes to shove, it is not.

In all likelihood the Japanese government, if push came to shove, forces Renault out of Nissan.
