States with the Highest Green Car Adoption Rates

Here are the top 11 states for green car adoption by rank and percentage of vehicle sales.

  1. California: 7.5 percent
  2. Washington: 6.1 percent
  3. Oregon: 5.6 percent
  4. Hawaii: 4.2 percent
  5. Vermont: 3.7 percent
  6. Maryland: 3.2 percent
  7. Utah: 3.0 percent (Tesla on track to sell new cars in Utah after bill passes)
  8. Virginia: 2.9 percent ( Tesla had won, but now licenses back in State Courts)
  9. Massachusetts: 2.9 percent
  10. Arizona: 2.8 percent
  11. Colorado: 2.7 percent

And here are the states with the greatest gains for green vehicle adoption between 2014 and 2017 by percentage increase. Six of the top 10 have state EV incentives.

  1. Alaska: 144.8 percent
  2. Vermont: 127.1 percent
  3. Hawaii: 118.1 percent
  4. California: 90.2 percent
  5. Wyoming: 85.5 percent
  6. Washington: 85.2 percent
  7. Maryland: 77.6 percent
  8. New Jersey: 70.1 percent
  9. Connecticut: 69.7 percent (Tesla can't sell)
  10. Montana: 69.4 percent (Tesla can't sell)
Finally, here are the states where green car adoption actually reversed opposing the 48.4 percent national average increase.

  1. Arkansas: -27.0 percent (Tesla can't sell)
  2. South Dakota: -23.9 percent (Tesla can't sell)
  3. Oklahoma: -11.8 percent (Tesla can't sell)
  4. South Carolina: -3.2 percent (Tesla can't sell or service)
  5. New Mexico: -1.9 percent (Tesla can't sell or service)

So this whwre it is going to get very interesting.

Tesla has delivered over 8k Model 3 this year. If production would be limited at 2k/week until the very last week of June, we'd still get 26-30k more produced. And then even if production would be limited at 4k/ week for the rest of 2018, we'd still get another 100k. Not sure how much of this will go to Canada, but as Europe is not getting any of them until 2019, I'd expect ~120k delivered in the USA this year even under this very pessimistic scenario.

So here is the rest of the competition - no more kids' gloves & separate EV charts, but playing with the big boys. According to businesswire.com these were the sales figures for the big German premiums in this segment in 2017:

BMW 3 & 4 series together: 99,083
Mercedes B-Class, CLK & C-Class together: 98,860
Audi A3 & A4 series together: 58,044 (If you want to add in the A5 like above, it goes to 79,345)

Throwing in Infinity from the chart above based on carsalesbase.com figures (not sure how accurate):
Q50: 40,739
Q60: 10,751

California Q1 2018 Registrations Numbers are out. Model 3 is the top selling near luxury sedan. Also outsells all subcompacts,large sedans, entry luxury vehicles, and luxury & high end sports cars.

Tesla Model S drops from 2nd in the Luxury and High End sports cars to 3rd. New 7th generation of BMW 5 Series takes 2nd spot.
