USB C Port orientation in 2021 MY

Does anyone else think the orientation of the USB-C ports in the new MY would be much better if rotated 90 degrees. With the new console they are oriented horizontally, so any right angle converter you get is going either into the compartment wall or across the other port. Trying to find an adapter that would make it flush with the compartment wall is pretty much not possible. One can get USB-C to USB-C right angles, but for my existing USB-A drives I'll have to get another adapter. I'm considering trying some of the cables that are supposed to be able to handle high curves.

Is there a different solution to this? This is the same console they have been using on the M3's for a while.

I don't think mounting that way is part of the USB-C standard.

I scanned the spec and didn't see anything about the port orientation. It's long though, so I may have missed it.

It does and yet it's still an issue. I want to minimize how far anything sticks out on the ports because with the top open things will easily slide down that wall and hit what is sticking out (or fall into the hole and hit things). I want to minimize the risk of damaging the ports.

I'm probably going to go with the cables that have a "tight" 90 degree connection and then put a converter on the other end. None of the tight 90 degree cables go to female USB-A which I need to plug the thumb drive in.

Unfortunately, the cable and adapter combination doesn't seem to work. The USB drive doesn't come online. I may have to go to a hub solution or similar. I have a right angle and converter combination that works, it just sticks out about 3/4" or so. I'll have to keep investigating. If only Fry's still was still around ....

Temai makes nice cords that have the 90 degree that you are looking for. I have a USB C one but they also make a lightning one for iphones.

Here is the solution that I came up with, to plug the usb-a RF adapter for my EasySMX game controller, into one of the usb-c ports in the console.

The right angle sticks out just enough, that the RF adapter gently rests on the angling contour of the floor of the console. For a shorter usb stick, it would rest closer to the wall. Worked well for me!

Right angle adapters on the desired axis aren't impossible to find, just not super common.
