Used MX from Tesla - Purchase Experience

Hello - Wanted to Thank the Members here for help.

I recently purchased my MX - 2016 AP2 from Tesla and wanted to share my experience

1) Been looking for ~4-5 Months. Used Sites like Ev-CPO.com, Tezz.la and TeslaCPO.IO - Found my car on Tezz.la ( Unsure why this VIN never showed up in EV-CPO).

2) Car was listed on Jan 8 for $61.5K ( White on White, 6 Seats, AP2, PUP, FSD paid for). This was the lowest price I'd seen over the few months of searching. So placed the order and paid $100. ( Please note this is a fee so add this to the vehicle purchase price)

3) Followed the instructions online and submitted all the necessary information. The vehicle was in Florida and I wanted to pick up there. Delivery Advisor insisted can needs to be shipped to TN for $2000. Stated TN laws Etc.

4) I went to the local DMV to query about the laws unique to tesla. There were NONE. Went back and forth for couple days with DA asking for supporting documents for his claim that cars in TN cannot be bought from out of state. It came down to take-it or cancel the Order.

5)I ended up agreeing and the car was ready to be shipped. Estimated 2-3 weeks.

6) Car Arrived in a week and was ready for pick up Jan 17. Got a trade-in estimate for my Odyssey and was all set. Banking delays resulted in pushing the pick up to Jan 19.

7)I had asked the forum for help on Check-list for Used MX. There are several but I stuck with the advise to look at top few things and enjoy the delivery experience. ( Everything else can be fixed under warranty).

8) I shortlisted few things to check - Windshield ghosting (PN verification) , Rubber seals across the door, windows. Charging Port open/close and Yellow Border around screen.

9) When I got there I saw a brand new MX ready to be delivered. I said to myself 'someday'. Went in and signed all the necessary paperwork and the Delivery Specialist walked us to the car. This WAS the same 'Brand New' car I had just passed by earlier - Except it was Used. I was really impressed on how good the car looked. I almost forgot the checklist I had.

10) Checked for Windshield and noticed it had the ghosting PN (bummer) and noticed slight stress marks on the FWDs. Asked the Delviery specialist to email me with these 2 items

11)Setup a follow up appointment for checking the Ghosting.

Overall, very impressed with the condition of the vehicle. Service Did run the test on Ghosting and confirmed the Issue, Will be replaced when the new part arrives.

Thank you all for your advise and suggestions.

Thanks

You are correct in that EV-CPO didn't pick up that VIN. But for the last few weeks Tesla has been actively blocking the inventory consolidators from capturing the data. I've had it resolved for about a week now, but I suspect your VIN was listed in the interim where EV-CPO was being actively blocked/targeted. Similarly, Tezz.la has been out of commission for about three weeks now.

I don't know the specific laws in FL or TN, but it's nothing specific to Tesla. You would need a temporary transport permit to transport the car between the states, either from FL (Tesla would apply) or TN (you would apply).

Alternatively (I'm assuming here) you could have bought the car in Florida, left it there, brought back the title application and titled the car in TN, gotten plates then gone back to FL to drive it back. I guess Tesla wasn't willing to title/register the car for you in TN (or maybe they can't, I don't know).

I've bought many cars "out of state" and usually the selling dealer will slap on a temporary tag so I can drive it home where I can park it until I get it titled/registered locally. So whatever the Tesla people were telling you was wrong or ignorant. NOT UNCOMMON, by the way.

Thanks for the great info. In regards to the ghosting, what does PN verification mean and how did you check for the ghosting?

Thanks,

Yeah - Ton of information on this forum. It comes down to checking the part numbers on the windshield.

1) 1034385-01-H or 1106012-00A has Ghosting Issue. I think Anything with -H or -A has issue
2)1105964-00-B or 1106012-00B does not have this Issue or anything with -B

Yes - you are right. I got a feeling they wanted the vehicle shipped to ease their 'Internal' Work. But $2K to the customer is like the hidden 'doc' fee we see with traditional dealers. I see this being a lawsuit in the future.

Hello, I am planning on getting a used MX under $65000 with TTL. I am debating on going with 2016 FSD capable or autopilot, there is nearly $6k difference and I don’t see added features for now. As I see in other threads it is less probable to get FSD with AP2 and MCU1, could you help me if there is any other reason to get AP2? TIA

I was in the same boat. My budget was $55K for an AP1 car (6 seater, white interior) but I was seeing AP2 Cars (with FSD) for around $60K, I decided the extra 5K was worth it. 1) For Resale - i.e. you'd make $5K-$6K more when you sell an AP2 Car and 2) HW3 or HWX Upgrade in the future. AP1's cannot be upgraded but AP2 Can be. IF (a big If) there is FSD is available in the future ownership you'll be upgraded (which will also benefit item 1)

Just my 2cents.

Thanks

But do I lose park summon and auto lane change if I do AP2 car?
