Using the Frunk

An interesting observation. I used the frunk for the first time yesterday to store some grocery shopping bags. Pretty convenient although it doesn't hold all that much stuff.
When I got home, I opened the frunk collected all my bags and then realized, even if I can hold all the bags in one hand, I need to put them down on the ground because you need 2 hands to close the frunk!

You need 2 hands?

I never found it to be that heavy.

Come to think of it: I also have this: So its much easier.

I think you misunderstood. The discussion is about the frunk, not the trunk. The trunk can be closed with one hand. It's recommended to use two hands to close the frunk. One hand placed on each side of the T emblem. Although I have removed my T emblem, and it is possible for me to press down directly over the latch with one hand.

Oh yeah...sorry.

Yes on the Frunk...I just press down right on top of the T emblem. ( right above the latch itself ).

It is not just closing, opening it would be a problem too. If you hands are full, you could still easily open the trunk just pressing the button. With the frunk, you need to grab your phone out from you pocket (or purse), open the app, and open the frunk. It is doable, just not as easy. I use my frunk to store extra stuff that I want in my car but not normally use like extra jacket, umbrella, etc... come to think of it, I should put my grocery shopping bags in the frunk like you did. Empty ones to the frunk, after shopping, goes to the trunk. Thanks!

The manual closing instructions work but there are two problems - one, as you said needing two hands and second - it leaves hand prints on the paint - this is very annoying especially if the car was freshly washed. I've found the fist closing method to work well and leave no marks. The trick is to close it very slooooowly. So, I make a fist, and push very slowly over the emblem until it clicks.

Wait... you don't have a pair of white gloves for the sole purpose of touching the outside of your M3? Heaven forbid...

Saw the video of the guy changing the Gas Spring Shocks to make the frunk open automatically. I tried it and it opened the frunk really fast and that scared me. Also displaced the frunk a bit so the right side was higher than the left. Sooooo i experimented with a few different product and these shocks were better and i only changed out the front left one. the frunk pops open now and then slowly lifts automatically. Here is when i bought on Amazon.

Best part about the frunk: it's completely isolated from the cabin. So if you have something stinky you need to put in the car briefly (this occasionally happens if you have little kids for example), frunk is much better than trunk.

And it's closeable with one hand. Just have to be careful/precise about it.

Oh I thought that's what the coat hanger is for! Hook the plastic bag on it and stick the rest of the bag outside the window and close it. :p

A fob could handle this operation quickly and simply, but then, a phone is so much more convenient than a fob, right?

I have a X too, and the fob does not open the frunk. The frunk still needs to be opened with either the phone or the screen inside. That's why we don't really use the frunk of the X too.

You are pushing down on the latch itself. I'm not sure how one would dent the frunk. The latch holds the largest resistance to closing.

This is something that you have to do in order to understand.

Considering the manual states to use both hands and where to position them so as to not dent the hood.. You do this at your own risk as it is not the correct way to close the frunk.
