Looks like this was a valet they did that. Although I really don't know how because Tesla's have the biggest, most high definition back up camera of any car.

Never understood valets. Why would I pay some random guy to park my car when I can do it myself for free?

Never used a valet myself (nor would I, if presented with the opportunity) but I always assumed they exist due to people wanting to be dropped off right at the entrance to an establishment rather than making their way from a far off parking garage because:

a) The can't/won't/don't want to walk for some reason (ie: sloth, infirmity, tardiness, etc)
b) They're decked out in fancy eveningwear inappropriate for weather conditions

I have used a valet once in my life, it was a location that had no other option, and it was a hyundai accent.

I sort of see why people do it, it's convenient, you get dropped off at the door and don't have to hunt for a parking stall in a crowded lot, or walk (sometimes a long way) It's also considered to be part of a "premium" service, you feel more pampered.

But it's just not worth the risk!

The video was first posted here in Hong Kong in a local Chinese forum and no one, including the OP, had ever said it's valet. It's a bad driver, that's it. Someone in the English media just made up the valet story.

The garage is really terribly designed. The driver does suck at parking but they should have known better than to try to even park there so its the drivers loss.

Sigh, this is why I avoid valet's whenever possible.


A few months ago, I walked by a valet curbing a minivans rims. I could hear them crunching (It was a hard impact and then he tried to give it gas to force it to park)...

Because the original Teslarati article quoted in the Op says it was a valet. Now, if that is incorrect, so be it, but we all are likely just referring to what we read.
