Version 9 and Universal Healthcare are totally related

If by free you mean 50% tax rate on income if you god forbid earn anything..... Then sure healthcare is free!
You know, the 11k a year spent by an average Canadian family in extra taxes is much less than the average 50k a year spent by the average American family on all health care and related costs

And if you had any idea on how a progressive tax system works.......oh whatever, I personally know three Americans who have gone bankrupt over health care costs and no Canadian wants to willingly give up our health care system. Our health care costs as % GDP lower than US, ore life expectancy higher than US. 2.7 million Americans went to India last year for medical treatment. .....again, whatever.

I estimate that is still way more than actual.

(Fraction of GDP spent on healthcare) * (average household income) ~ the right number

it really isn't.

Heart surgery doesn't cost 10x less if you make 10x less money. Neither do most healthcare costs. Your income generally has little to do with your healthcare bill- your health does.

The US spends obscenely more on healthcare per person than any other industrialized nation in the world (and usually gets no better, and often worse, results...while covering a lower % of the population)

The fact we spend so much is why people go bankrupt in significant #s here due to healthcare costs. Something that again is virtually unheard of in most modern nations.

3.5 trillion will be spent on health care in US in 2018.
20.4 trillion estimated GDP of US in 2018.

17% (or about one sixth) of total GDP spent on healthcare.

126 milion households in USA in 2017

3.5 trillion divided by 126 million households is $27,777.78.

So you are correct.

$28K per family is too high.

The real figure should read $27,777.78.

Cheers.

1.) Insured people have to pay for uninsured people. Fun blend of capitalism and socialism.
2.) Where can you find the most advanced medical care in the world? Where is the most advanced surgical devices, robots, and pharmaceuticals developed?

People need to go back to discussing cars. This is painful to read.

I think this is correct, but take it in context: the US is obscenely sick, fat, sedentary, stuffed with drugs of abuse, and a founding member of the cult for the flogging of dying people.

Then your case sucks.

vastly more US citizens leave the US for healthcare outside the US than come to the US for it.

Medical Tourism Statistics & Facts | Patients Beyond Borders

We estimate some 1,400,000 Americans will travel outside the US for medical care this year (2017).

Same folks reported about half as many come into the US for it.

Because with rare exception ours isn't better. It's just way more expensive.

You can tell by looking at basically every actual fact available instead of gotcha one-off anecdotes.

2.) Where can you find the most advanced medical care in the world? Where is the most advanced surgical devices, robots, and pharmaceuticals developed?
.

You think it's the US don't you?

Spoiler- it's not.

How does the quality of the U.S. healthcare system compare to other countries? - Peterson-Kaiser Health System Tracker

The U.S. has the highest rate of deaths amenable to health care among comparable countries

The U.S. has higher rates of medical, medication, and lab errors than comparable countries

The mortality rate for respiratory diseases is higher in the U.S. than in comparably wealthy countries

Adults in most comparable countries have quicker access to a doctor or nurse when they need care

To be sure- there's some areas we're better than other countries...and lots where we are worse.

The idea we've got some SUPER MAGIC WAY BETTER healthcare in general here is complete nonsense. We don't.

In general it's no better than most other modern nations, and at a much higher cost, and with less people being covered.

Canadian Politician Comes to U.S. for Heart Surgery

I rest my case.

Funny how Canada laughs at the US Military spending when Canada depends on the US to protect them with that very same military they laugh at.
So you found one guy from 8 years ago, a rich guy at that, via a Google search. Here is some context if you care to read it Williams talks about U.S. heart surgery | CBC News

As a retired military man, I assure you that Canada only laughs at the spending on a bloated US military industrial complex (that Eisenhower warned against back in 1960), not on all military spending. The money would be better spent on single payer health care and education. The issue with healthy educated people is that that they cannot be manipulated as easily. YMMV. Cheers and God Bless.

Um...nobody actually wants to war with Canada because they don’t go out of their way to piss other countries off and choose instead to support peace efforts. But feel free to give an example of the last time Canada asked for US military to be stationed in Canada to protect Canada from an enemy army. Take your time.

There was that one time when Canada and the US warred against each other...
