Video: Tesla Model 3’s IIHS Crash Test

The 2019 Tesla Model 3’s crashworthiness received a very positive review from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety after being put through a litany of tests.

In particular, the Institute called out the Model 3’s performance in its “most challenging” crash test, the driver-side small overlap front test.

While it’s hard to watch a Tesla smashed to bits, a video of the Institute’s test shows the Model 3 seemingly keeping the test dummy from significant harm. That’s certainly encouraging for owners.

Watch the video of the test above.

Wonder if the Tesla has an advantage in this test. The weight of the battery towards the outside rear, pivots the car away from a corner impact, dissipating some of the impact in diagonal movement & wheel scrubbing. whereas a motor block's weight at the front would tend to lock a car into the impact.

However that's probably what happens in real life, so well done that plucky exTesla.
