VIN Assignment

Didn't get an email invite, but last night around 8pm PST, checked mytesla. Sure enough, it allowed us to configure (Red, Aero Wheels, EAP). Spit out a VIN on the spot (around 1400).

Have yet to hear from Tesla.

Probably, given your location in the Bay Area. Unlikely they shipped that particular car anywhere, so transport time will be nil.

Perhaps the biggest delay factors are indicating you will finance with Tesla and whether you are trading in a vehicle to Tesla.

Looks like Tesla has produced a lot of cars on spec, and matching them up with configurations that match to expedite a healthy number of deliveries for 2017. Smart move by Tesla...

Well, they are moving fast for LA owners. Configured on Thursday (had the email for a while, as I was going to wait for AWD, but circumstances overrode that). Noticed I had a VIN on Saturday (1986) and got a call from the DS wanting to know if I could take delivery this week in Marina Del Ray.

Unfortunately I am out of town, but I could have feasibly ordered and taken delivery in 1 week, which is crazy. (Almost TOO fast as I am still working my way through an insurance total loss claim)

I chose a loan, although I hadn't even had time to fill out any info on My Tesla before they called. So cash vs financing makes no difference, it appears.

Interesting. I think there's another variable: where the specific vehicle is physically located when you configured or got your VIN.

In our case (12/22 config, 12/22 VIN assignment, plan to trade in, no call or contact from Tesla), my guess is that our vehicle is still in Fremont. You might have lucked out with a vehicle already staged at MDR.

I wonder if Tesla made an equal amount of colors/wheels for these cars or used the employee cars to guide them. And even the November orders.

1 week to get your car has to mean and VIN 14xx probably means it was already made and waiting there.

Slick operation. Got a call this am and arranged for a pickup at Factory on 1/27. Had assumed I'd opt to pickup this week so they withdrew the previously assigned VIN 2570. Will assign another VIN mid-January.

Hmm i had a VIN assigned this morning and now it's gone! I configured on 12/24 so i'm not too concerned yet, but i'm wondering if they are shuffling VIN's around after they are "assigned"
