VIN Assignment

Configured on the morning of December 23rd. Still waiting for my VIN to be assigned. Planned delivery in San Diego per the phone call I got from my Tesla Rep.

Seems as though VINs are quick for some slow for others? I'm guessing if the particular configuration was sitting in stock somewhere I'd get it automatically, but perhaps I'm waiting for the next match coming off the assembly line...

When did you configure? I'm frustrated that I haven't gotten my VIN yet even though I know I'll probably have it in the next couple days.
I configured Nov 22nd. Received my first VIN on Dec 7 and was expecting delivery on Dec 26, but they dropped the ball and kept on postponing delivery and messed up location of delivery center as well. So, VIN was removed around Dec 26th. New VIN issued yesterday.

Interesting how the VINs come and go like that. From what I can tell the end of the year was almost solely people picking up at Fremont or MDR, presumably trying to pad their stats for the end of the year. My sales rep originally told me I had to get mine at Fremont or MDR, so I opted for MDR but the next day when I spoke with him he said they will ship it directly to San Diego.

I'm guessing they are probably batching a bunch of San Diego M3 deliveries. I'm getting antsy.

My delivery is now set for this Saturday at 11am.....

The "delivery specialist" was useless, totally out of the loop. My original delivery date could have been Dec 23 but we got the call late on Dec 22 and couldn't get a certified check in time. So we set it for the afternoon of Dec 26. That morning we got a call that the car was still in Fremont, and we set up a new delivery time for Saturday the 30th. "delivery" guy knew nothing of this when I emailed him, it was someone else who called. I called the general Tesla delivery number on Thursday, found the car had just arrived in MdR, and got an appointment for Friday afternoon the 29th. Pickup went fine. VIN stayed #142X from the first time I saw it online to pickup. Love the car, no issues. Fantastic efficiency, better than our Leaf (which we just sold). Keeping the S, free supercharging, and we have 99,000 miles on it already (2013 S85).

What worked well for me:
1. Check spreadsheet
2. If more than 10 people have configured after you configured and received their VIN &/or delivery then retail your Tesla sales rep
3. I gave him the facts and said I was disappointed as this week was week 4 and I don’t have a VIN, and delivery is 1-2 weeks from receiving a VIN, thus would miss 4 week estimate
4. Got a VIN assigned the next morning, this morning!
5. Email sales rep, and Call if you have their number (725) Vegas, or Call 888 number for tesla and tell them you got a vin and emailed rep and would like to speak to them
6. Got a call back within a few hours and delivery date set for next week 1/10/18.

Note for so cal: Costa Mesa only doing 2 model 3 delivery slots each day, rest of slots for S and X. Marina Del Ray sometimes will be quicker.

Hope this helps!
