VIN Assignment

The theory wasn't that you were assigned a VIN 7 days before delivery, because you are normally assigned a VIN well before then. What happened was simply that Tesla would not post your VIN in your account until 7 days before delivery. My VIN was assigned on May 13, and was subsequenty just posted to my account on June 12 with a June 19 delivery date.
So now they are assigning VINS like with the same procedure but the difference is whether we are able to see the VIN or not is that correct?

Either way I wish they had a consistent procedure in place we are coming up on July which marks one year they have starting delivering albeit to employees first. You would think by now this process would be much clearer and consistent.

I love clarity, and Tesla, but that is definitely not one of their strengths. Tesla is learning as they go, so I foresee the delivery process continuing to evolve - only time will tell. In the meantime, I'm super stoked that I only have 4 more days! :)

I noticed late last night (or early this morning) that my "edit design" is missing. Good news right?
Ordered online 3/31/16
Ready to Configure email 4/13/18
Configured 4/25/18 (afraid to pull the trigger)
"Edit Design" disappears 6/15/18

I have a question, does the 'add your wall connector to see your VIN' trick not work anymore. Mine says "gift or VIN not configured yet"
Update. Received email around 7pm (Livin’’ on Tulsa Time) from delivery specialist in Las Vegas the same day. I guess we’re doing this.

I think the problem isn’t learning as a company, the problem is they are expanding fast and many service centers and new hires whom this is all new for. The company can learn all they want but until all your new hires and existing centers get used to 3-4X the number of cars they are used to almost over night which then becomes 5-6x....it’ll keep being hard to get right until it stabilizes.

The Tesla delivery team was overworked\understaffed before the higher production rates and layoffs. I’m really hoping it’s not a mad house from here on out.

On the other hand Tesla has to show profits so Elon is doing whatever needs to be done to do so . The small company I work for is way understaffed/overworked so I get it.

We configured over 2 weeks ago, with a 3-6 week delivery timeframe showing. (we are existing owners and sat on our invite for months)

2 weeks later. Nothing. No email from anyone except the initial "receipt" of our additional deposit. No VIN. No ETA.

My S experience had far more updates from the get go....

Edit design button gone as of today, 6.17.

Oddly, an escalated email to them a couple of weeks ago (I am an existing owner) still promised delivery within the 3-6 weeks noted at time of ordering - by 6/29.

As we are in South Carolina - this will be down to the wire for 6/29 - haha

My edit design button dissapeared yesterday morning (Saturday). I had been sitting on my invite for awhile but what is interesting is what happened to my friend who lives about 5 miles away. Not 12 hours after I configured my M3, he received his invite and was told if he configured by Sunday (Today) he would receive his vehicle June 29. Perhaps Tesla figured if they were shipping on M3 to the middle of nowhere, it'd be more efficient to ship two at once...

That would be a good sign for them as a company - if true - from an organizational perspective!!
