VIN Numbers...is there any logic to the numbers?

So, I recently received my VIN and was review the order tracking spreadsheet and started to compare the recent assigned VINs. Is there any logic or order to the VINs last 6 numbers?

I noticed several instances of people receiving VINs that were in the 77xxxx range more recently, while others had received VINs like 78xxxx two weeks ago. For example, my SA notified on 8/29 I was assigned a VIN of 775xxx and my car's birthday was 8/28.

In the grand scheme of things, I know its irrelevant, but after waiting almost 11 weeks, I'm running out of things to occupy myself with now that I've bought too many accessories and watch about every Youtube video on the model 3.:D

They assign vin numbers in batches, not sequentially, so trying to compare vin numbers against delivery dates only works in a general sense, not a specific one. Its entirely possible for a car with a vin number that is higher, to be built before a car with a vin number that is lower (in a general sense).

I will use my own car as an example. I bought my car in 2018. The original car I was assigned was vin 144,XXX (last 6). I had to reject that car due to number of defects (even the delivery specialist was like "I would reject this one if I were you"). At the time, tesla had another unassigned car with my same specs (which isnt hard, tesla doesnt have a lot of options), and asked me if I wanted to be swapped to that one rather than wait for another one to come in.

It had Vin number 106,XXX. When I asked for the "born on" date of both cars, they were born within a 3-4 days of each other, which was about 2 weeks before my pickup date. The vin numbers were 40k apart, but the cars had been completed within 4 days of each other, and tesla was making "5k cars a week".

TL ; DR -- Dont read much into your vin number, other than as a general idea. Obviously my vin of 106,XXX is older than yours, but there is likely very little difference (to no difference) in VIN numbers 77X,XXX and 78X,XXX.

My model 3 built and delivered in 5/19 had a VIN of less than 200,000, while most other VINs from that same time were over 400,000.

I don't know an exact day for my car, but many people have been told the day by Tesla. Tesla can see it in their system.
