I hope it means they're developing an electric car that will have 230 miles range  but no one has been able to accomplish such a feat while keeping it affordable for the masses.

They're bringing the US into line with the rest of the world by switching to 230v.

It should be ok, only cheap items like shavers, light bulbs, Nintendo DS's will go pop - it's to stimulate the economy, plus it'll mean that most of the US will have 480v available in the garage outlet for the Roadster; faster charging.

I really hope that they're not going to try to claim 230 MPGe for the Volt.

ABG says Ad Age says it's GM.

If it's GM, I'm guessing that's the Volt's MPG via accounting trickery. :)

So if we apply the same methodology to a real EV, we get, um, infinite?

Or I suppose it's kind of equivalent to the tongue-in-cheek suggestion I made a while back, which was to measure the Roadster's MPG by looking at the oil used in the form of transmission and brake fluid. If I remember correctly, it came out to 64,000 MPG, give or take a few thousand. Sure beats the heck out of 230.

It is indeed going to represent the MPG of the Volt. Saw a bit on it on CNBC this morning.

Moderator's note: Since it did actually turn out to be about the Volt MPG, discussion continues here.
