It looks like a number of car manufacturers are announcing integration with Alexa or Google Assistant in CES. Here is one such example:
Toyota and Lexus vehicles will add Amazon Alexa this year
I have always thought that the voice capabilities in Tesla can be vastly improved. It is by far the best voice recognition compared to my previous cars, but for some reason Tesla has a very restricted list of voice commands. Even without AI, an initial improvement can be to simply allow for more commands - example changing climate settings, changing media, turning lights on and off etc.
Then introduce NLP and AI to take to the next level. Some ideas are:
- Instead of relying on hard coded commands, users can speak in natural language and the assistant will still process the command (e.g., increase sound volume, increase music volume, increase volume will all work)
- Introduce conversational capabilities (e.g., User: "Tesla - what's the best route to home right now ?" Tesla : "Take 101 south and 92 E, will take 1 hr to reach home", User "What is an alternative route?")
Seems like relatively easy to do with so many NLP engines already available.
