The VW I.D. R Pikes Peak, the Porsche 919 Hybrid, and the Audi R18 24 Hours of Le Mans look very similar.

I suspect that the Pikes Peak might have be designed by the same racing team
who have been dismantled following the Le Mans departure.

I wonder if it was a marketing decision to put a VW badge instead of a Porsche or an Audi one?

Or may be it is another way to cover up the emission scandal?

I noticed the same similarity between the 919, R18 and I.D.R ... the shared design certainly shorted the full EV development time.
From a Marketing perspective, the decision to use the VW badge was a another calculated case of Green Washing the Diesel scandal

6:05.336 Nürburgring-Nordschleife

Great video... more details here: VW ID.R electric racecar runs fastest emission-free lap of all time on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife - Electrek

The custom-built all-electric race car that weighs “under 2,500 lbs”, is equipped with two electric motors capable of “680 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, giving it a 0-60 time of 2.25 seconds,” and a 43 kWh battery pack. VW also made some modifications to adapt it for the demanding Nürburgring-Nordschleife race track.

Unfortunately, the vehicle and driver were still far from the overall record. The record for non-series/non-road-legal vehicles is held by Timo Bernhard in a Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO with an impressive 5:19.546 time – almost a minute faster than the VW ID.R.

It's still the 2nd fastest time ever.
