Volta Charging at Southcenter Mall Tukwila, WA

We stopped in for lunch & shopping and were pleasantly surprised to find free-to-use Volta L2 charging near the downstairs Macy’s entrance. It required the J1772 adapter and charged at ~30A from what I remember. Other than asking users to limit usage time to 2hrs per vehicle, there were no other requirements. I didn’t pay too much attention, but it seems there were 3 or 4 single-parking stations available at that entrance.

Volta is great. Get the Volta app, many stations sprinkled around SEA and PDX. App can show you which stations are open, although not that reliably.

I like Volta but the one annoying thing is the 2 hr limit. You either have to break the limit or else never use it when going to a movie. Which is especially stupid because there is one by the Oakwood theater in front of the box office. "I dare you to use me while you watch a movie for 2.5 hours!"

They’re nice but super slow. Sometimes I debate whether it’s worth pulling out the J1772 adapter for it . Besides, they’re usually clogged with plug-in hybrids

What is the business model? The Voltas around us at the malls all seem to be totally free of charge.

Given their scarcity at otherwise major destinations, I'll leave these for the 75-mile Leafs of Focus EVs that might actually rely on them for their return trip. Or also for the plug-in hybrids that would otherwise have to use gas on their return trip.
