I had a call this morning from Brisbane Delivery, telling me that they'd "found me a car" and it was currently on its way from the US. So I am beginning to suspect that hidden VINs will appear only once a car is coming off the production line, or being loaded on to a ship. Or, you may get lucky and pick up someone's cancellation that's already here.

The guy also said he was going to upload my final invoice later today and said that I should get delivery end of November or early December. This once again confirms that whatever you see on the order screen, or get told by sales (October in both cases for me), it's complete bollocks. We're at the mercy of The Algorithm (reminds me of The Director in Travelers if you've seen the Netflix show).

I'll post again once I get the invoice with the build date so hopefully @Vedaprime can track my 4881XX to a particular ship.

So my invoice arrived and it says the build date is 4/10/2019. So it looks like the VIN was allocated 12 days after build, and most likely once it was on a ship and on its way. I'm guessing it's loaded on to Synergy Oakland, so anyone with a 4881XX, look out for a delivery end of next month.

Would be cool if Tesla could provide an indication of which models/colours/specs they have a "surplus" of in country (or on the way here), that don't have a customer assigned yet. Either due to customer change of mind, or ahead of time dispatching of stock to preempt demand etc. Maybe with some kind of "backorder", "stock available", .... etc statement.

Not sure how feasible it would be, but I wonder if that might give people with model flexibility a way to change, and for Tesla to keep inventories low... win/win?

Interesting, Do you know if you have one of the 2020 Builds? Im wondering if they allocated vins earlier than normal for that last batch

Got a call from Tesla this arvo offering Blue P- for my Blue LR AWD ordered 4th Sept. (Reservation since early Apr 2016).
I'm assuming it must be a cancellation?
Said delivery couple of weeks. - we'll see. They did say LR AWD not here until Dec.

I always get a little terrified whenever someone mentions upgrading to a Blue P3-, as my delivery is supposed to be less than a week away.

There seems to be a change to when vins are allocated - much earlier. They used to be allocated close to arrival.
The delivery teams are being far more transparent lately.

The vin ranges have all been used before - multiple production days, so ship is hard to work out on this info alone. Once you have your invoice, it will have the build date. From this, the ship can be worked out and arrival date.

It would be on ANL Warrnambool, leaving Oakland Oct 11, arriving Nov 8, and at least 2 weeks in logistics.

@bigbones to work out if yours is 2020, look for an L in your VIN. If you can't find an L but see a K instead then yours is 2019.

A phone rep told me (early October) that a late November deliver was looking good. Back then that wait felt like an eternity! Almost a month later still no firm update. I am considering getting a t-shirt made.. "no, I don't have a delivery date yet "

I was told November, but that is looking less likely now, although I did get a call from Pepper Finance yesterday so *maybe* thats a positive sign?
If you do get the tshirts made, I will have one in pink please
