    Hi all,

I've been following the site for a while and a few weeks ago my wife and I took the big decision to sell our BMW X5 (which we loved) and search out something a bit more friendly to the planet. I work from home so driving in the UK is not an everyday thing for me but we do have a house in France that we go to a lot and the round journey is close to 1200 miles each time. So, queue my man logic. Selling our heavily depreciated 2011 X5 for £17k and buying the £108,000 MX was worth it because we will save £300 of fuel each time we go to France and back.

And also the kids love the falcon wing doors.

I wonder how many of us have traded up to a vehicle which we would never have imagined owning? I couldn't justify buying an Aston Martin. But I just had to have this crazy vehicle with crazy doors and crazy acceleration.

And so it took a week or two of my constant Tesla rambling to convince my wife we should test drive one. She actually made me test drive a Range Rover too just to make sure we loved the Tesla. In a week moment I fell in love with the Range Rover. Then queue her knowing look and her comment of, "I thought we were changing car to save the planet!". So, I walked away from the Range and over to the Tesla shop the same day. It is nowhere near as luxurious, but once I planted my foot down for a second (in Ludicrous mode) and my kids had a minute to play with the doors we were sold.

    We've decided:

White 100D with white interior. PUP. No autopilot functions (my wife just won't let me...).

We've decided to take it on a 4 year purchase hire contract, which is not a cheap way to do it if you want to keep the car forever. But I think in 4 years we might be onto a 150D or who knows, an all electric Range Rover. (I love Tesla but I am still waiting to take on full brand loyalty depending on how the next 4 years go).

Then started the waiting, anticipating and the obsession.

I am watching objectively very dull youtube videos of people in their cars taking road trips. I am updating this forum for new posts to drip feed me endorphins and my My Tesla page to see if it will go into production.

Surely we have all felt this.

So yesterday I called Tesla and told them that I would like to borrow a model X this weekend because my children are just so excited and can't wait 4 months.. I think the guy got my point.

So from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning we will have a MX P100D with autopilot.

And then we go to France next Thursday so we are renting an MS 75D for that trip.

Tesla has made me certifiably insane and I probably have 3-4 month still to wait. Will I be a gibbering wreck long before then!?

Think I might be hiring that S 75D a few more times before then.

(BTW my wife wasn't sure until she drove it in the test drive and saw the kids absolute joy with the thing... I got the "wife smile" as we walked back to the shop from the test drive. Permission was granted!)

Cheers! (and sorry for the long post)

So you just called up Tesla and asked to borrow one and they gave you a P100D? How much did that cost? My 75D isn't due until mid-June and I have a road trip planned June 1, so I've been asking my delivery specialist if there's any way to bump my delivery up a few weeks. But maybe just asking them for a loaner for the weekend would be better?

Yeah, so I called my sale's guy and the only X they have is the one they use for test drives and it is a P100D. He had told me when I bought mine that as the expected delivery times had gone up to around 4 months that I might be able to get a couple of weekend loaners.

A free P100D for the weekend... honestly this is a very good start to my Tesla relationship and I hope it just keeps going well from there!

Handed the P100D back this morning. It was wonderful to have for the weekend. It gave me pause, after all we have ordered a 100D with no EAP and with standard wheels and this loaner had all of the bells and whistles.

BUT, I take the victory where I can. It was hard enough to convince my wife we should spent such a lot on a car and that it would be electric! Tesla number 2 in 4 years will probably be allowed to have more of the EAP functionality. As a non-commuter I think the lack of these functions is more of a problem for my geeky side than my practical side. (I don't have a practical side in reality)

The kids (and all the people we showed the car to) get a lot more joy out of the FWD and the smooth ride of an electric motor then out of the pimped up wheels and the super-speed (ok there were a lot of giggles with that too)...

And my X went in to production today, which is a bit earlier than I thought it would!

Don't be bashful about requesting a loaner until your vehicle is delivered. My delivery was also pushed back nearly 3 months and they accepted my trade in early, provided a free Tesla loaner (MX P85D), and honored the previous finance rates. Definitely made the wait bearable. In the end, the car was definitely worth the wait.
