Wall Connector - tied to VIN?

Just went to order a Wall Connector for my new Tesla. On the cart page, there's a pull down menu showing my vehicles for me to choose which one (one option is "This is a gift").

What's going on here - why does Tesla need/want to know this?


Also, I notice on eBay there are a few Wall Connectors, New condition, for sale from Canada at prices below what Tesla charges. Was there some Canadian promotion? I can save $100 getting a 8.5' cable version - any downsides?

I believe the chargers in Canada are subsidized by the local governments, so there is a scheme where people buy it in Canada, claim the subsidies and resell to the US market....chargers seem legit

If you do buy one from other than Tesla make sure it is the upgraded one from spring 2016 and on. Adds power sharing and reliability.

I believe it affords you free shipping when a valid VIN is provided.

This is at least partly data gathering for market research. Firms ask this kind of question to understand who is buying a product and why.

But they do have your money correct? You have a my Tesla page I suspect that you can log into. I know that when I was ordering on the Tesla website when I logged in it took the freight off of items that I had ordered either that or it directed me to log in prior to getting to the checkout.
