I wanted to get folks thoughts on what I should do here. I ordered in Dec 21 and somehow had a vin assigned in like 3 weeks. At that time we really hadn’t decided on the color and we’re debating between grey and black. I called Tesla to change it to black and got a date of July. In the last 7 weeks I have had 7 delivery dates. The latest is May 7 th to jun 11. I am on vacation from 29th to May 7th and won’t be able to take the car if the windows is that week. Should I role the dice and Hope it does not come through or put a hold(how does that work)? What happens if I cannot take the car if the vin is assigned the second time? Tesla said they would cancel my order.

I think the question is more what “can you do”.

Option 1: cancel and reorder now - I wouldn’t do this.
Option 2: change your vacation dates: seeing how the delivery dates will most likely change again, I would not recommend it.
Option 3: stick with it.

My delivery dates changed like 25 times during my journey to get a car from Tesla. When the car was finally built after 9 months, they asked to delay delivery for a week due to some issues with transportation. That day happened to be the week I was out, so they pushed it out a few more days to accommodate. Granted my situation was a bit different, but I seriously doubt that your car will deliver on the 7th when you are out, especially given that you still have a pretty wide delivery window.

In short, you can’t plan around Tesla’s delivery estimates. You’ll just be pissed that you did.

Don’t want to cancel it. Yeah was debating between rolling the dice or putting on hold for a week. Given that the new date is at the end of my Vacation, I am leaning towards rolling the dice. The date has come in once for me but pushed out again. So I think I would be fine but wanted to get as many data points as possible.

I agree with your strategy. I am all about keeping my beta sores high so that I can be approved for beta FSD testing, and will only be engaging autopilot on the freeway for time being. I am currently averaging 99 after getting a 98 on yesterdays drive. Unfortunately a bus pulled out and was dinged for braking. Some of the dings don't make sense to me, particularly the unsafe following one as I am very conservative in my following distance. I also got dinged yesterday for aggressive turning, which had me scratching my head in wonder without a clue.
I have been holding beta score of 99 for 2 weeks now. I was at 100, but had to use my brakes to avoid running a red light and got dinged. Maddening how easy it is to get dinged while driving conservatively. I think hopefully 99 should get me approved for FSD beta testing.

I am now down to 98. Got a dreaded FCW when someone pulled in front of me as I was "slowly" braking towards a traffic light. So trying to do the right thing I got had twice. I.e. FCW + hard braking. Problem is the FCW now sits there for the next month :-(

Never mind FCW (forward collision warning).
Well, after 32 days of maintaining a 99 safety score, I got the dreaded FCW and there was no impending obstacle that threatened my MSLR. Absolutely ruined my day and dropped my safety score to 97. Have any of you trying to get FSD beta approval actually gotten approved? I made it through one month but heard nothing, and now will have to drive carefully for another month until the FCW disappears.

Five months and counting…. No need people added since before Christmas last year.

Wow, that is not encouraging to hear. I thought EM had announced at last earnings call that they had approved 100k FSD beta testers. Where are they coming from? Not sure whether it is worth it to drive my car this way if it does not get me approval. I absolutely love my new MSLR and love to drive it but am anxious to try Insane mode and launch it a couple of times, but have restrained myself due to the beta testing review parameters.

We have two cars with 99 or 100 ratings for ages now. Elon does a great job of stringing us along, just when I am about ready to stop the FSD SS pain he tweets, "next week going broadly", then the following week, "Few more bugs to fix, next week for sure". Not the first time that has happened.

Don't want to risk missing the next window, but I would really like to drive normally again, and not run deep orange lights.

FYI - 2022 Model S has a serious problem with the accelerometer. Braking on downhills has a higher chance if getting a ding, since they don't compensate for gravity. Our 2018 Model S does not have that issue. There is a road in Kirkland where it is near impossible to stop on the downhill without a ding, since it is so steep. So either run the light or find a different route :-(

Thanks for the summary and note about the 2022 bug, and wish to drive normally again. I share that sentiment. I haven't had any issues with the accelerometer yet, but managed to get my second FCW yesterday with absolutely no hazards warranting the ding. It is crazy how after 31 days with 99 score, I have had two FCW's in 4 days. I am screwed now, but really want to be an FSD beta tester, so will continue to subject myself to being careful and maybe I will get lucky.

Did you get the FCW warning while driving? If not then make sure you set FCW to "Early" in the Autopilot settings of your car. That seems to correspond best with a FCW ding.

Before I did that I did not realize trees in the center median of the road near our house were causing FCWs. Basically the road has a bend and a blind rise, so somehow the car thinks I am going to go straight and hit the trees. Now I need to drive in the bicycle lane to prevent a FCW, or about 5 below the speed limit. Basically driving less safe to get a better safety score.

Yep both times heard audible FCW while driving that showed up in my FSD beta score, dropping it from 99 to 96. In both cases, there were no visible obstructions that warranted FCW IMHO. I already set my FCW to early in Autopilot settings. Anyway my last two drives were perfect (100) so now I just need to ensure that I do not get any more FCW's going forward. Totally crazy the things we are doing to get FSD beta approval.

BTW does anyone here have any idea on when Tesla Insurance will become available in WA? I would love to switch to Tesla insurance when it becomes available, and the beta score will hopefully be helpful in getting a lower insurance estimate when it comes here.

Hello from Redmond! First post here and this is my first Tesla - I'm going all-in with a Plaid S on order. 😀

As I'm new to all this, I would really appreciate some advice from the more experienced owners out there on the following questions:-

1. My delivery date has changed a few times already - initially it was June - August, then October - January, now it's saying June 15 - July 27. I note that you have to be able to take delivery within 3 days of the date they give you, but the wide timescales and changes are making it difficult to plan trips away. Now that I have dates, is the timescale locked in? (RN1171*) Do they really just sell the car to someone else if you can't take it within a 3 day window and if so, what happens to your order?

2. I just got an estimate to install the wall charger from Custom Electrical Services, one of the Tesla recommended installers. I will need to replace the subpanel in the garage to handle the 60A load, so they need to run cable to the main house panel about 50ft away. The total is $6,575 which seems pretty high to me. Is that in the ballpark or should I get more quotes? Can anyone recommend a good electrician?

3. The trade-in value they gave me is $7k below KBB value ($38.5k vs $45.5k). Do they typically low-ball? I'd prefer to trade-in and get the tax credit, but at that value it doesn't make sense.

4. At delivery, if you find any issues, are you able to reject the car right away? I read that once you unlock the car with the app, it is considered to be accepted. If that's true how would you deal with any interior quality issues?

5. Any recommendations for wrapping specialists on the Eastside?

Many thanks in advance! :)

I landed up rolling the dice and went with option 3. Still waiting

My advice, stay away from Tesla for trade in on your old car. They definitely low ball estimates. I sold my 2015 MS85D on line for $20k more than their estimate.
