Water in trunk seal/plastic thingy

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
I picked up my car less than a month ago and I've noticed some water in the trunk seal and also in the little plastic cutouts. I'm wondering if this is normal and if anyone else has seen water collecting here.

See attached pictures.

Glad this may not only be me.

I installed a motorised boot lid in the summer and while doing so found that the noise insulation in the boot was totally soaked! I thought nothing of it, thinking it maybe just got wet by water running into the boot when it was open and it never dried out...

However, I also have now noticed the same puddles in the boot lid stops and between the trim and seal and thought I'd double check the insulation again... This is the under-the-floor storage space in the boot:

A little concerned now that it will be overlooked under warranty (if their is a problem) because of the motorised boot lid installation...

Same, after driving in a rain. The car is less than month old.
Scheduled a service appontment.

I've got water coming down the induce of my windshield now. Happened a few weeks after getting the windshield replaced due to a huge crack forming from what they said was an impact point. Getting a really annoying air whistling as well from the leak spot while on the highway. Have an appointment to get it all fixed.

I had the issue…it’s the back of the hatch above the license plate. When you drive on wet roads it sprays upwards and they didn’t properly seal it at the factory. Tesla fixed it with automotive sealant but if I was you, I’d do it myself. They did a pretty messy job applying it (a month ago) and just a few days ago I finally got an opportunity to go through a car wash which showed me how they got sealer/adhesive everywhere.

Thank you!
Can you please point on a photo where to look at?

Okay, just returned from the service center. Similar to you, they found a water leak under the tail lights, sealed and water tested.
Since they removed tail lights, it's not as messy as in your case.
Will post an update if it leaks again

When you have a moment:
  1. Can you take a picture of the 'work done' / service center receipt (leave out your personal / vehicle details)?

I have the same issue and I am not sure where the water is coming from "right side" bumper/lid.

See my post from earlier for my issue/fix…in my case it was from my tires spraying up from the wet roads leaving lots of muddy water behind the seal and those small wells.

Thanks for the quick reply - I did see your comment, but thought you said "Tesla fixed it with automotive sealant" and image, it shows the backplate, and the upshot by the license plate lights area. Thought you would have a receipt of the work completed - if not no worries

I adjusted the trunk bumper (it can sping for adjustments in and out kind of far) part and will see if that 'fixes' my issue, as it is only on the passagner side and not driver where some water pools in that spot

This has not been the most fun process. I brought my MYP in to the shop for two reasons. The first reason was that the windshield was cracked and when they replaced it there was a water leak that came inside the windshield during a rainy day. There was also a whistle / air leak sound that was (is) present when driving 60+ mph. They replaced the windshield again and the wind noise was (is) still there. The trunk is also collecting water during every rain and they said they couldn't reproduce it so they did nothing.

The pictures attached are from the snow/rain yesterday in New York.

Ouch -- sorry to hear all the issues with little to no fix on the Windshield -

As for the trunk -- check your lid bumpers -- that seems to be an issue on mine.

After making the adjustment to the trunk bumper (twisting in as far as it can go in -- the passage side was 'out' about 3 full twists) it seems to be 'better' - But we have not gotten much rain here so really hard to know if that is what the condition. The last run through a car wash didn't see anything in the trunk but will keep an eye on it this spring as I think there might be needed than a car wash.

I had that really bad and the fix was automotive sealent above the license plate area. It was from driving on wet roads and the upwards spray. I have also heard that it needs to be sealed behind the taillights sometimes.
