So there are a few web sites and apps that specialize in the weather. And all offer maps.

Why doesn't even Google Maps offer a weather overlay? I would love the map in my car to also have a weather overlay so I can see what I am driving into.

It cannot be that difficult compared to the technology that the respective companies already offer?

Precipitation and surface winds overlays (current and forecast) would be ideal. It exists on many, many aviation sites and apps.

And many mobile device apps are available that offer it. I recommend NOAA Radar Pro or NOAA Weather Radar.

Check out this thread--->Cool-webapp-for-model-S developed and shared free by a TMC member; one of the best I've seen and includes forecast.

For anyone with frequent lightning storms check out http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime for real time lightning strikes (although this doesn't work well on the MS browser due to refresh restrictions). I can testify it works great on an iPhone though.
