Hi guys,

Just received our P85D last week (will post pics soon). Absolutely love it!

A question: Is there a way to get the web browser working?

I heard it was removed for the Australian market.

Cheers,

To show the stupidity of our laws, you can buy the latest navman smart gps and install in your car, complete with web browser linked to your phone sim. Tesla need to toughen up against the nanny authorities.

Homelink will likely never happen as it is a US system and uses frequencies that will not be allowed in the Australia spectrum. A web browser however should definitely be allowed at least in Park - the last few cars I owned before my Tesla allowed full videos in park - so what's the diff ?

Has anyone actually put in a request/complaint about this? I got an email back from Tesla and they said that could potentially get it going in park. This is Tesla Australia.

I talked to Tesla about it way back before I got delivery and at that time they were saying they 'hoped' to get it enabled and they were all very aware of it as an issue. Hard to believe the problem is technical, it would be absolutely trivial to enable the browser only below a certain speed (as ADRs allow), more likely they don't want the hassle of whatever regulatory signoff is required.

My last BMW had homelink, a web browser and even a TV....

My wifes landrover also has homelink.

In order to get homelink working in Australia I had to pay a few dollars, and install some type of of receiver.

How are our car going to bring themselves out to the gararage if they can't open it.....

Surely some logic could be applied to this. Ie. It becomes available when someone occupies the passenger seat (assuming weight sensored for seat belt warning) it could be used (and have the inane warnings that the nanny country desires prior to use). And or as previously suggested, when the car is in Park.

Back in March, I sent the following to [email protected] and got the answer shown.

It would be nice if those of us in Oz could have browser access (at least while stationary).

I already made a feature request, and forwarded it to the development department.
We hope they will be taking care of this very soon.

I think a few more requests along that line wouldn't hurt.

Request sent. I wonder if it is to do with restricting data volumes for the deal with Telstra? Although if videos are blocked I can't see the data usage would be that significant?
