My navigation map displays not only major points of interest, but also purely random, obscure businesses ( a nail salon, consulting business in a residence, small attorney’s office, etc.). Why? Is this advertising? How do I turn off these weird places? Nothing in the Manual about this at all.

its similar to google maps on the phone, you will sometimes get random POIs. I don't understand google's algorithm either but it seems to be based on things you MAY like to see?
Do you need to get your nails done and then get a divorce? I dont know, i dont want to ask questions about your life choices.
When I open my maps right now i see a POI for a senior living center. EXCUSE ME? how rude.
