PROTOTYPE HYDROGEN-POWERED CAR TO BE BUILT IN WALES
Riversimple Engineering is investing £3.5m to develop a hydrogen-fuelled car prototype at its new Llandrindod Wells facility.
The project has been backed by a £2m research, development and innovation funding from the Welsh Government.
If the vehicle goes into full production, a further 20 cars will be built for a 12 month public trial ahead of volume production.
Manufacturing is likely to be based in Wales, potentially creating an additional 220 jobs assembling about 5,000 cars annually.
The company has transferred ten staff to its new Welsh research and development (R&D) facility from its base in Ludlow.
It is hoped that the two-seater car will have energy efficiency equivalent of around 240 miles per gallon with a range of 300 miles, 0-50mph in 8 seconds and a top speed of around 55-60 mph.
