I'm trying to get a better sense of energy usage. A few questions--

I've previously read that the historical usage statistics on the Energy tab only tracks energy used to power the motors, but ignores energy used to power AC etc. Is this correct? If so, do the projections adjust over time on a trip to take into account energy used to power AC, audio, etc?

On the left side of the screen, there is separate energy information tied in with the odometer. It seems like this part might account for all energy used by the car, not just energy used to power the motors. Thoughts?

Thanks.

No. Both of these have the idea close but incorrect. What someone is talking about is how they do not account for idle usage while the car is not being used, but it's not distinguishing between motor or HVAC. What these do are that they are only totaling energy while the car is in Drive or Reverse--being used. And yes, they account for ALL of that energy used from all sources while driving. But if the car is parked or "off", then they are not counting it.

@rocky, I'm not sure of this. Because when I first start up after a few hours of idle, the initial Wh/mi are quite high. I've seen this going way back to my 2015 MS.

And it seems anomalous to not factor idle consumption somewhere. It can't just be ignored.
