Well I didn't think he'd actually do it. It wasn't repaired, he had to drive it like that. We did much worse ... wiring doors shut when people would sleep on the night shift. You know, the normal things people do when they're very very bored.
(The mine is still in operation, I believe.)

1974 Mazda RX4 Rotary Wagon
1983 Mazda RX7 (converted to 13B... Then added a turbo... Then converted to run on propane... Made a digital dashboard out of a Commodore C64)

2001 Lexus IS300 (my first auto... but with gear hold buttons on the steering wheel.)
2000 Ford Ranger EV NiMH
2011 Nissan LEAF (my first front wheel drive vehicle.)
Wow, another person who modified Rotarys... my father did that, I swear he had one of each (including the pickup) up until the RX8. Therefore my list:

An Oldsmobile sedan of some sort... hey, it was free

2010 Volkswagon TDI (current)

Those were mine. The spousal unit had, during the same time period...

Mercury Lynx (not sure of date)
1991 Dodge Shadow

so really looking forward to the Model S.

Cars in US:
2002 Mercedes CLK55 AMG (used)
2006 Mercedes CLK63 AMG (first on west coast. wonderful car. hardly gets driven any more)
2009 Roadster 2.0

There were a couple of others in-between and many of these overlap as I often owned more than one car but here's the core list:
  • 1963 Hillman Imp (Rear engine. Horrible handling! Thrashed it, cracked the head and it caught fire. Burned to the ground).
  • 1963 (?) Ford Corsair (Bought at auction, didn’t run so I installed a 1600 Crossflow engine. Fiberglass body, very light, car took off like a rocket with the crossflow. Rolled it one week later. Complete write-off)
  • 1973 Cortina TC Mk III XL (A real workhorse. Great car)
  • 1986 Ford Sierra 2.0 (First time dad. Boring car….)
  • 1988 Fiat Regata Weekend (Dog joins the family. Boring station wagon…)
  • 1992 Ford Mondeo (Second kid. Bigger boring car….)
  • 1994 BMW 7 (Big promotion, nice new fat salary!)
  • 1996 BMW M5 (I loooved this car!)
  • 1997 BMW Z3 and 3-series station wagon (Continued my Beamer love affair)
  • 1998 BMW 5 (Told you I loved the 5-series!)
  • 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser Anniversary Edition (That car got treated so roughly and handled everything! Kept it for several years)
  • 2003 BMW E39 M5 (Pure joy to drive….6-speed manual)
  • 2005 Mercedes S-Class W221 (Employed a chauffeur to drive it. 2 TV’s in the back plus massager seats, bar etc.)
  • 2005 Mercedes B-Class (My wife's runabout...third kid by now)
  • 2006 Mercedes McLaren SLR (Acceleration compared to the Roadster, but a real gas-guzzler!)
  • 2007 Mercury Mountaineer (Retired to live by the beach…)
  • 2008 Shadow Aero Cruiser (300lb bike with 300lbs of chrome)
  • 2009 Toyota Solara (SWMBO insisted I give up the motorcycle)
  • 2010 Tesla Roadster (Yeeeeaaah!!)
  • 2012 Model S (Completed options spec today!)

My rather short lis:

• 1988 First co-E-drive in a Horlacher (Swiss)...E-mobility works :)
• 1994 Ford Escort (had to start with something affordable)
• 2001 VW Passat 1.8T Lim
• 2008 VW Passat 1.8T Station (still driving)
• 2008 (first test-drive in Tesla Roadster @ Geneva Automobil Salon...never let me go)
• 2010 E-Bike (to get the sense of E-mobility, loading @ home etc.)
• 2013 Tesla Model S? (looking forward to a test drive)

Model S will be the first American built car I've ever considered owning.

1977 Rabbit
1987 Accord
1991 Accord (new)
1997 Tacoma (new)
1997 J30
2003 Cooper S
2007 Civic Hybrid (new)
2013 Model S (new)

I couldn't list all of the cars I've driven since I used to valet in Palm Springs

That's a huge jump in years!

the biggest jump was really from the citroen. the DS21 was decades ahead of its time. if it hadn't been squashed in a hit and run (while i was in it!) i'd still be driving that perfectly restored specimen.

i still have the isetta. it is super fun.

the rover i just sold after owning for 24 years.

the panel van was stolen (i mostly bought it for the deco styling and it was from NASA so it had a very faded worm logo on each flank)

the delorean i sold to a friend. that was a disappointing car. the engine and the tiny operable windows (not to mention the owner community) made it less fun than one would suppose.

after the citroen was destroyed i decided to get something that was equally forward-looking and quirky leading me inexorably to the roadster.

Agreed. Had the 2004 Prius not come out, I was seriously looking at getting a restored one because none of the new cars did anything for me. I sold my original for a price I couldn't refuse (and I also had too many vehicles at the time). I regret selling it--even more so because the buyer totaled it within a couple of months.

Wow, let's see...

1964-1/2 Ford Mustang 6-cyl -- still have
1965 Pontiac Tempest GTO -- still have
1979 Honda Accord (the reason to this day I still won't buy any car from a Japanese tin-can manufacturer)
1985 Olds Cutlass Ciera
1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme
1999 Chevy Suburban 1500 4WD
2003 Chevy Impala
2004 Chevy Suburban 1500 4WD -- still have
2010 Chevy Traverse -- wife's car

1 - 2002 Protege5 - Runtime: 9yrs (it was good, nothing outstanding thats good or bad other than it was really easy to modify)
2 - (current car) 2010 Genesis Coupe V6 - Runtime: 3.5Yrs and counting (love this car, fast, reliable, easy to maintain, cheap on everything, reg gas, reg oil)
3 - 2013 Tesla P85 hopefully this year sometime (deposit is going down June, so however long it takes tesla after that to get it to my door)

I have always been a car guy since high school. Not too many eco-friendly cars on the list, but I'm making up for some of that with my Tesla now, so don't be mean to me.

The Chevy Nova was nothing but trouble the keys said GM mark of excellence. Guzzled gas so bad it needed a tanker along side of it.
ALways worked under the hood every other weekend.
AMC Pacer was parked more than driven. Ate starting motors, flywheel had broken teeth, carburetor plugged up.What a POS! maybe 10 MPG
