I think the fifty percent increase in amperage accomplishes a couple of things--
It frees up a destination charger sooner so that another owner can use it.
It reduces charging times for a mid-day stop for lunch or a side excursion.
It opens up more territory to drive your car off the SC highway with minimum down time. A 300-mile leg with a 70A public charger somewhere halfway in between will let you add 100 miles of range in about two hours at 208V. At 48A it would take about three hours.
