I've noticed that too. The biggest factors are speed and (this is huge) temperature. Your efficiency will drop precipitously when temperatures start getting below about 40 F / 4 C.
It makes sense.... electric motors are efficient! Pushing air uses energy you don't recover. Same goes with the heat pump system. It's hard to avoid working the tires hard! :redface:

I think a big part of the reason for that is with the Tesla you recover quite a bit of that energy when you start slowing down and regeneration happens.
Agreed. So long as you can use the regen and not the brakes!
